About Your Trip

Join Captain Joey for a fishing trip on the river. This is a straightforward, laid-back trip focused on spending time on the water and targeting the fish that are actively feeding that day.

Trips depart at 7:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. aboard a 24' skiff that is well suited for fishing the river and is disability friendly. Anglers of all experience levels are welcome, from beginners to experienced fishermen.

During the trip, Captain Joey will
fish different areas of the river based on conditions and where fish have been holding. The approach is to adapt to the conditions and look for the best opportunities available throughout the day.

Most trips are fished with live bait, which is simple to use and works well for anglers of all ages. Depending on conditions, artificial lures may also be used. All rods, reels, bait, and tackle are provided.

This river remains one of the last largely untouched waterways in the area and provides a great setting for a few hours of fishing.

There is no mate aboard, so Captain Joey will be your guide throughout the trip. You're welcome to connect your device and play Bluetooth music during the trip if you'd like to add your own soundtrack to the day. We also recommend bringing a small cooler with drinks and snacks to stay comfortable while you're on the water.

Whether you're looking to spend time with family, introduce someone to fishing, or simply enjoy a day on the river, this trip offers a relaxed experience for anglers of all skill levels. Just show up ready to fish, and Captain Joey will take care of the rest. As with any fishing trip, conditions and fish activity can vary from day to day, but Captain Joey will do his best to put you on the fish and help you make the most of your time on the water.

Captain Joey is much more than your average charter operator. He's been fishing the waters off of North Carolina for his entire life, ever since he caught his first fish on Claytor Lake with his dad and grandfather at age four. From then, he was hooked! Captain Joey got his first taste of offshore fishing as a mate on a fishing boat at age 15, catching tuna, billfish, bottomfish, and more out of the Oregon Inlet. In his spare time, he could always be found fishing with a family friend, a surf fishing guide, catching drum and spanish mackerel in the surf off Hatteras Island. He also frequently fished for speckled trout and flounder in the Pamlico Sound. In short, if it swims, Captain Joey has probably hooked it.

At 18, Joey started mating on charter boats out of Hatteras Inlet and began his dream of offshore fishing for a living, which he has done very successfully since.

In addition, Captain Joey has a degree in aquaculture and agricultural science, so you can trust that his knowledge more than matches his personal expertise. He prides himself in knowing and learning all he can about fish. He studies their habitats, feeding habits, growth cycles, and life cycles.

He’s always seeking new ideas and techniques to catch fish and has always been eager to learn from those who are willing to share their knowledge. It turns out that you can teach an old dog new tricks! With Joey’s vast knowledge of the history of fishing coupled with his in-depth understanding of new fishing techniques, you are sure to have one of the most exciting, entertaining, and educational fishing trips of your life! Capt. Joey is eager to share his knowledge and fishing experiences with all his customers. He loves helping others become better anglers. If you’re looking to learn about fishing or to fill your freezer (or both), Capt. Joey will work hard to ensure your trip is successful.

We have a great morning with Captain Joey. We went across the sound that morning and caught a bunch of beautiful trout. We also caught ribbon fish and croaker . It was fun because we were always on Fish.

We would gladly go with captain Joey again
