About Your Trip

Whether a morning or afternoon trip, the Lower Laguna Madre is the largest area of contiguous saltwater flats in the world. Fishing will take place from South Bay, at the foot of Space X rockets all the way up to the mouth of the Arroyo Colorado some 20 miles to the north. Sight casting takes place on grass flats and clear, trackless sand that you would swear was in the Bahamas!
Fly fishing or sight
casting with light spinning tackle is the ticket. The primary species targeted are speckled trout, redfish, snook, Jack Craevelle as well as other inshore species.
Advanced anglers will find themselves right at home while novices can book fishing trips or discounted casting lessons based on skill level.
Double Mermaid is family friendly and kid friendly. Based on experience, ages 12 and up tend to have better fly fishing experiences. Trips can be tailored to match both skill and age levels.
The average depth of the Laguna Madre is approximately two feet. Crab and shrimp patterns along with the trusty Clouser round out the flies we use.
Fishing is done from a Sabine Versatile, that provides both comfort and room for up to two anglers.
All trips are customizable with regard to departure time, species focused on, techniques utilized, ability level as well as options for SpaceX rocket launches, dolphin watching, summertime firework shows, swimming and other tour related activities.
You will be greeted with good humor, great stories, local history tidbits, information about the local flora and fauna, Texas hospitality and a lifetime of outdoor experience brought to bear making each client's trip all that they hoped for.

Independent Guide
My name is Glenn and I have the privilege of fishing the Lower Laguna Madre out of South Padre Island, Texas.

I am now at the tender age of 56. I have been a captain for over three decades but started fishing and hunting when I was too young to remember. As one grows in their passion and their passion becomes an obsession, fishing can consume your life or it can become your life. One natural extension is to want
to share what they know with others along with the joy that it brings them. This is why I guide.

We are fortunate to live on the water here on South Padre Island. My clients meet and depart from our home. I run a 24 foot, tunnel-hull Shallow Master for conventional trips along with a Maverick skiff for fly and conventional sight casting. Both are outstanding fishing platforms to cover the largest area of contiguous saltwater flats in the world.

Whether first time clients or returning friends, I look forward to a fun, educational and productive day on the water each time we venture out.

In every fishery, there are a handful of guides that you would want to fish with if you got the chance. For South Padre Island, I try to be one of those. What I mean is, being a genuine waterman, not just a fisherman, the right amount of saltiness portrayed through joy at the little things. Going the extra mile, fishing a little longer than the time you booked...

When not hunting or fishing, I can usually be found on the deck of a sailboat racing regattas all over the country. Along with Stefani, my wife of 27 years (she owns and operates Sisters Interiors, an SPI shopping company), and we have two grown sons who are outstanding outdoorsmen in their own right. Both are married to wonderful women and our first grandchild on the way in March 2025.

Long story short, after a day of fishing with me you're going to want to come do it again. You will have had good fun learning, catching fish, laughing, and have a story or two to tell along with pictures to prove it!

What makes you different from other guides?
Even after three decades of doing this, I get excited before every trip. I look forward to meeting new friends or visiting with long time clients to catch up. Taking others to share the incredible things I get to see every day is a something I never take for granted. If I was coming to South Padre Island I would want to fish or hunt ducks with me. We'll laugh, learn, catch a fish or shoot a duck and shake hands as new friends when we part.

Everything Else to Know

Like anywhere in North America, summertime is hot and winter time is cold, though not nearly as cool as our friends up north. Dress seasonably appropriate. Feel free to call me and discuss specifics based on time of year. Highly recommend polarized sunglasses, a good hat and putting on sunblock before you get on the boat. First of all, it gives time for the sunscreen to soak in and do its job the entire day and secondly it does not get all over the boat. I provide ice and waters. Clients are encouraged to bring whatever else they want to eat and drink for a fun day on the water.
You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.
We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).
Cancel for free up to 3 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 3 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.
