About Your Trip

Fly fishing for bass in Moses Lake is an action-packed adventure that every angler should experience. This fishery is home to some of the best bass fishing in Washington, offering incredible opportunities to target both Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass on the fly. Smallmouth Bass are aggressive, acrobatic fighters that will test your skills, while Largemouth Bass are known for explosive strikes and powerful runs. Hooking into one of these fish in just a few feet of water on a popper or streamer is an unforgettable thrill, and with bass reaching impressive sizes—sometimes up to 12 pounds—you never know when you might land a true trophy.

Whether you're an experienced fly angler or brand new to the sport, this trip is designed for all skill levels. I’ll provide instruction on casting, presentation, and retrieval techniques to help you maximize your success on the water. If you’re new to fly fishing, don’t worry—these techniques are easy to learn, and I’m happy to teach you everything you need to know.

A couple of days before your trip, I’ll contact you to confirm our boat launch location and start time. Depending on what we’re targeting, an early morning departure may be best to take advantage of prime fishing conditions, so be prepared for an early start. Make sure to purchase a Washington fishing license before your arrival.

Unless we’ve made other arrangements, please bring your own lunch, snacks, and any specialty drinks. Staying hydrated is important, so I’ll provide plenty of water for everyone on board. Breakfast is key to a great day on the water, so eat beforehand or bring something to enjoy on the boat.
Weather conditions can change quickly, so dressing in layers is essential. Always bring a rain jacket, even if the forecast looks clear, and avoid wearing cotton unless it’s a hot, sunny July day. Sunscreen is a must for warmer weather. If we’re fishing from a raft, space is limited, so pack light and be strategic about what you bring. On the powerboat, there’s plenty of room for extra gear. Please note that cleats and metal studs are not allowed on any of our boats—felt or rubber soles only.

Bass on the fly are an absolute blast, and Moses Lake is the perfect place to chase them. Get ready for aggressive strikes, thrilling fights, and an unforgettable day on the water!

Independent Guide
Chad is a passionate fly fishing guide who brings a lifetime of experience and a deep love for the outdoors to every trip he leads. Based in beautiful Washington State, he offers scenic float trips through the North Cascades targeting native Westslope Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout, as well as action-packed fly fishing adventures for Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, and Rainbows across the Columbia Basin.

Born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of upstate South Carolina, Chad cut his teeth
chasing Largemouth Bass in hidden backwater ponds and drifting dry flies to Rainbow and Brook Trout in small mountain streams. His journey since then has taken him coast to coast—from New York to California—fishing for everything from Brown Trout and Smallmouth Bass to Snook and even Leopard Sharks. But it wasn’t until settling in Washington in 2018 that Chad truly found his stride.

While working as a field biologist for the USDA, Chad spent five days a week fishing the Columbia River, from Priest Rapids Dam all the way to Rocky Reach. The goal was conservation—removing predatory species to protect vital salmon and steelhead runs—but the byproduct was invaluable: an intimate, boots-on-the-ground understanding of Washington’s most iconic fishery.

Encouraged by his wife to follow his true passion, Chad made the leap to guiding full time—and hasn’t looked back. Whether you're a seasoned fly angler or brand new to the sport, Chad’s trips are designed to meet you where you are. With his easygoing nature, wealth of knowledge, and love for teaching, Chad is all about creating relaxed, rewarding days on the water that you'll remember long after the last cast.
