About Your Trip

If you're looking for fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled fishing, there’s nothing quite like chasing False Albacore and Bonito on light tackle—and Captain Brian’s Cape trips out of Falmouth, Massachusetts are as good as it gets. Available exclusively during the month of September, this is your chance to experience some of the most exciting fishing New England has to offer, right in the heart of the fall run.

These trips focus on sight-casting to surface-feeding Albies and Bonito,
known for their blistering speed and finicky feeding habits. Armed with light spinning tackle and a full spread of high-quality artificials, you’ll hunt down fast-moving schools as they tear through bait pods just under the surface. It’s a thrilling game of run-and-gun, where quick casting, precision, and a little bit of luck can mean the difference between a hookup and a heartbreak.

Departing from Falmouth, MA, you’ll be fishing aboard Captain Brian’s 26’ Jones Brothers center console, equipped with twin 2024 Yamaha 200s. This boat is perfectly suited for stalking fast-moving fish across open water, with a wide open deck layout that makes it easy to move and cast quickly when a school pops up.

False Albacore—often referred to as “Albies”—are prized for their raw power and incredible speed, sometimes screaming off 100 yards of line in seconds. Bonito, slightly more elusive, offer the same aggressive takes and acrobatic fights, all on gear light enough to make every battle feel like a heavyweight brawl. When conditions line up, these fish feed aggressively and create an unforgettable experience for any angler.

These trips are highly visual, high-energy, and demand a bit of focus—but they’re also incredibly rewarding. Whether you're an experienced light tackle angler or just getting into this type of fishing, Captain Brian will coach you through the action and put you in the best position to succeed. A mate will also be onboard to help throughout the trip, ensuring a smooth and fun experience from start to finish.

All tackle, bait, and gear are included, and Captain Brian will handle any fish you decide to keep—though most Albies are catch-and-release due to their fighting spirit and less desirable table fare. Bonito, however, are excellent eating and will be cleaned and filleted upon return if you'd like to take some home.

Be sure to bring polarized sunglasses to help spot fish, along with sunscreen, a hat, and a light jacket or sweater for early morning runs. If the forecast looks questionable, some foul weather gear is always a good call, and don’t forget a few snacks and drinks to keep your energy up during the chase. If you’d like to bring your own rod, just check with Captain Brian in advance to make sure it’s dialed in for the task.

September in Cape Cod is peak time for these pelagic speedsters, and spots go fast. If you’re looking for explosive surface feeds, lightning runs, and an all-around unforgettable day on the water, don’t miss your chance to chase False Albacore and Bonito with Captain Brian out of Falmouth.
