What’s been almost as crazy as the fishing is the South Florida weather. Lately, the radar seems to promise a total washout just about every single day we head out. But somehow, our luck has held strong—we haven't been hit by a single storm all month. While everyone else is staying inside looking at gloomy forecasts, we’ve been out on the water's edge enjoying great weather and even better fishing.
Another enjoyable day on South Florida's freshwater waterways targeting the colorful and hard-fighting peacock bass!
We finished the outing with 13 peacock bass, including a beautiful 4-pounder. Several larger fish also made appearances, providing some exciting encounters and a few memorable missed opportunities.
Fishing was a little challenging at times, but the peacocks provided plenty of excitement when they decided to cooperate.

Recent Everglades trip produced a special moment when a longtime fishing buddy put everything together and landed a new personal-best largemouth bass at 6 lbs on a hollow-body frog. High water made conditions challenging, but persistence paid off. We caught a handful of bass, with the big fish being the clear highlight of the day. A terrific experience all around. Even though we didn’t catch many fish! As the crew said, that’s why they call it fishing and not catching! Still, we had a wonderful time and a lot of fun.

Trip: Iguana Hunting Insanity
Captain Ricky was an awesome guy. It was a full moon, rainy,windy type day and he did about all he could do to get us on fish. The only improvement I felt he could make better for his clients is having Right and Left handed reels onboard. Both of us felt awkward using left side handled bait casting reels.

We did the cast and blast trip and were able to check a couple things off the list. One of the guys in our group was really wanting to catch a snakehead and got it done, and I was able to knock a peacock bass off my bucket list as well. We also got some good iguanas during the hunting portion of the trip. The equipment provided was top notch, especially the guns, and everything was handled with a strong focus on safety. For someone new to this type of trip, there’s definitely an opportunity to experience a little bit of everything.
