Surf fishing has been slow but productive unless you're after the toothy critters! We've been getting into whiting, and bluefish mostly but there are reports of pompano being caught here and there. Shark fishing has been as good as it gets for our area. The Trout family joined me for a night of shark fishing and they met their match with this Blacktip shark estimated around 70-80 pounds. Tight lines and good fishing!

The bite will be pure outrageous once it hits 78 degrees. Right after Ian it dropped to 78 and bite was insane and fish were concentrated. Temps are still up at 80 degrees at the moment and there are fish there… but you have to cover quite a few miles to be productive.

We’ve been seeing windows of good surf fishing conditions over the last few weeks. In those select opportunities, we are catching quality whiting and big bluefish for our area. Until the water cleans up for us, Pompano will be few and far between, however if you are feeling lucky like Jason was, you may get to catch a slot-sized Redfish out of the surf, which isn’t a very common catch for my area. Tight lines and good fishing.

Went out offshore this morning, clients hooked into 3 King Macks quick, then a pod of Dolphins moved in on us. Kings went down. and when the kings go down like that you’re wasting your time to stick around so we bumped it offshore. Hooked into a good size Mahi, had another ~20 pounder bust off. Then things went cold. So we picked it up and motored back to one of my favorite spots where we picked up a Bonito, 2 Baracuda, a 4-5ft Silky Shark, and to top it all off two lunker Black Fin Tuna! First was right under 20lbs and the second was pushing 30lbs if not over. Absolute studs. As far as an outlook goes, with this wind picking up and Tropical noise pushing up our way, we’ll be inland bass fishing for the next couple days. But given the bite today and recently, once the swells die down out there next week, I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be on Like Crazy!
Fishing is hot right now on the Central Florida coast! We are seeing waves of Pompano migrating through with the schools of Mackerel and Bluefish. The seaweed has subsided for the most part, this is the best it's been all year for surf fishing. Find yourself some clean water, a good sandbar and you'll be on your way for some quality fishing.
My go-to lure for Bluefish and Mackerel and Big Jacks in the surf. 1oz Gunslinger Jig by Beach Bum Lures.

Tight Lines and Good fishing!
Hog fishing is hot!!!
If you have the patience to hunt these guys down, I will offer up the same great strategy that seems to work for me: To start off, I utilize medium lite to medium size fishing rods- and our “weapons of choice” are the green stick made by Kris green these custom fishing can be purchased at ST. Pete Fishing Outfitters. I prefer a 10-15lb rod rating, but you can go with what you will have the most confidence in. As usual, the line of choice 15lb Braid attached to a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. Pete Fishing Outfitters. I prefer a 10-15lb rod rating, but you can go with what you will have the most confidence in. As usual, the line of choice 15lb Braid attached to a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. What I feel is the most critical component of my setup is the use a 1/4oz Mission Fishin jig-head. Now that we talked about the setup, let’s get to how to find them. I’m going to suggest you search around ledges- there’s no need to look for the wrecks. When fishing these areas and using this type of rig, you will also hook up with a fair amount of Mangrove Snapper and Key West Grunts. The water depth I am looking to fish in is 25-60ft. Save yourself some of your hard earned money. There is no need to buy the biggest shrimp at the bait shop to catch these guys. Regular or Hand Picked shrimp work just fine for this application, but make sure you bring plenty of them. As a rule of thumb, I typically make sure to bring 15 dozen shrimp for my clients when I’m running a 4 hour charter. 4thST bait and tackle and Mitch’s bait and tackle always has great looking shrimp! So when you’re out there hoggin’ try to bring a 4/0 reel lined with 80lb matched with a stout rod. You’re going to want to drop a 3-5oz sinker to bottom (depending on current) with a dead bait to the bottom. My personal favorite here is to have a butterflied Key West grunt attached to the business end. Make sure you lock the drag down and then simply set it in a rod holder. You just may happen to pull up a nice Gag Grouper ( If you put these tips to use and you’ll set yourself up for some great cold weather fishing & some of the best tasting fish you can get!! Chad and JJ were both great. We had a slow day of fishing but JJ busted his butt trying to keep us on the fish. We hooked two sailfish which made the whole trip worth it! Boat was very nice too!
Had a great trip all around, good vibes! Captain Calvin was very knowledgeable and a great guide. Put us on a lot of fish and was very professional. Can’t wait til next time!
Tuesday, June 16th. We launched at 6am just as the sun was coming up. Valerie recommended we use shiners which were ideal. The bass can't resist. We boated 42 bass in an "extended" 4 hour trip. Valerie said that we fish until all the shiners are gone. She's the best.
