After that chilly spell! We were thrilled to catch some great snook after the water temperatures dropped. Anglers Mike and Eloy had a fantastic 6-hour adventure in Everglades National Park, using artificial lures, and they caught several nice snook and redfish.

Weather temps falling and rising are making things a lil more difficult but there's still good action. With a very good diversity of snook drum reds trout mackerel and a few early tarpon and permit .

These past few weeks we've been finding mahi in 300 to 550 feet of water when we find a good weed line, and in between we've been catching some scattered blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna

Plenty of great fishing and visuals during the winter down here in South Florida! Redfish and bonefish have been plentiful and large goliath grouper stepping away from the shadows looking for some sun. The snook fishing is also picking up so come on down and check it all out for yourself.

Fishing through all of these cold fronts, there is one thing that has been consistent. That has been live shrimp. If you use live shrimp, you will get plenty of action. Sheepshead are in all the rock holes and on the oyster bars. Incoming tides are best. We have been catching Reds, Black Drum, Snapper, Seatrout, and even some Goliaths using Shrimp. Snook fishing has been a little tougher, with the back country being the only place to find them right now. This should be changing next month if we get some consistently warmer weather. The fishing in Naples and Southwest Florida has been outstanding, with the fish into a nice wintertime pattern, despite the warm tropical weather.

In the backcountry, we have been bouncing jigs and drifting shrimp on the bottom of the deep holes surrounded by shallow flats, and getting rewarded with all kinds of fish, big and small. Redfish, black drum, sheepshead, big seatrout, big mangrove snapper, jewfish (golaith grouper) and jack crevalle have been the predominant characters in the show, and they have kept bends in the rods, smiles on faces, and yummy delights on dinner plates!

The only species we
have not been tangling with, have been snook and tarpon. And with another strong cold front heading down shortly, I don't expect to see those fish in the back waters, but one never knows!

In the meantime, we will keep on enjoying some outstanding fishing, fun, and fish dinners in the foreseeable future!

After a back-to-back cold front and a pretty nasty die off with water temps in the 50's, things have finally started returning to normal. Reefs and wrecks turned out a solid mackerel bite, a decent yellowtail bite, and plenty of muttons in the shallower reefs . Even had some surprise sailfish, and nice wahoo as well.

Bayside has been very productive on the mangrove snapper front with some nice-sized fish for the box and plenty of action as well.

My dad and I were able to squeeze in on a charter with Captain Eric fairly last minute which was awesome! He got us both on some sea trout first thing in the morning, lined us up on some tarpon but before I was able to take any shots on the fly rod, we spooked a tarpon and in came the bull sharks. We buzzed over to a different flat where I had shots at both snook and redfish. I didn’t end up making any of my shots with the fly rod but this was also my first saltwater fly fishing experience as well as my first guided trip so it was all pretty new to me. I’m just stoked we were able to get out in the first place. But I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Captain Eric and I certainly wouldn’t turn down another opportunity to have him guide us! He’s quiet but very focused and knowledgeable about the marine life and was able to give me casting tips as well with the fly rods. Thank you again for squeezing us in Eric!

Capt. Ron was a true professional. He called me the morning of our departure to ensure we were still interested in the fishing trip since the weather was not fantastic (high winds). He provided details about the length of time to travel to/from the fishing spot and conditions while fishing. When we arrived (earlier than scheduled departure time) he was ready and willing to get started early. He put us on the fish and showed us how to cast and catch. We caught so may fish we could not take time to take pictures (except the few attached). It was an awesome experience and hope to book with Ron next time we are in Islamorada. 10 thumbs up!!
