Fishing is in full swing. With consistent weather, winds and water temperatures the fish have congregating in the same area of being able to locate them relatively in that same location every day. Fishing has been beyond great and will continue to get better with the consistency of these water temperatures and weather.

The redfish bite has been pretty solid along with the snook bite. I’m starting to see some really nice mangrove snapper show up at some local docks as well. Reef fishing has also been good of the wind isn’t blowing too bad. Snapper, grunts and sheephead have been chewing pretty good out there. The grouper have been chewing the floor out of the boat but unfortunately we can’t keep them right now.

Good Morning, Spring is here and fish are starting to show up. We have been catching a lot of sea mullet & Gray trout or called Weakfish this first week of April. Spanish mackerel & Atlantic Bonito should be showing up by next week.

We are still catching good numbers of slot to over slot redfish on the flats along with trout over 20" and numbers of smaller trout in deeper water. The reds on the flats are beginning to transition into their summer patterns. The schools are breaking up and instead of a few shots at 50 fish we can get 20+ shots at singles. This can mean more technical presentations but if it were easy it wouldn't be worth doing! Although, with more intermediate anglers, pitching live mullet to laid up and cruising redfish and trout is very effective. The snook fishing is beginning to heat up; on the night trips we are getting good numbers in the dock lights and starting to catch some tarpon in the 20-40 lb. class. Throughout the month we will be seeing more snook on the flats. By the end of May, tarpon season will be in full effect for mosquito lagoon and new Smyrna beach. Dates are already filling up fast so make sure to reserve your dates now to tangle with the silver king this summer or sight fishing the flats of mosquito lagoon.

The Spanish are back! The Sheepshead and bull redfish bite has been epic this past month. I'm noticing those sheepshead bites are starting to slow down a bit. However, the Spanish Mackeral bite is hotter than ever. We are slow trolling tree rigs just outside the pass and catching 3-4 mackerel at a time. A little bit farther out on the reefs we are catching some early season red snappers and triggerfish on almost every drop. Several good Cobia are starting to be caught, so we are hoping for a strong early season bite to be picking up here in April and May.

The last week was challenging yet rewarding. While there were not any “gimmie” days with a lot of effort and some brain power we ended up putting some nice boxes of fish together with a pile of trophy black drum up to 50 pounds. Even saw our first kingfish and Mahi of the year. I expect summer fishing to come early after next weeks blow. Meaning kings, cobia and plenty of other tasty critters. While inshore has been booking hot, day by day I can feel it getting less quality bites and more “junk fish” while great to bend a rod I don’t expect to see full fish boxes of great eating. Spanish mackerel should be showing any day providing great action for kids and family trips. But also a great fall back if the sheepshead trout or redfish are uncooperative. Skiff trips have been heating up as well focused around the low tide as usual. Redfish bite was very very slow a week or so ago but is recovering nicely.

March Fishing has brought a lot of fish over the rail. Reds, trout, and a great sheephead bite inshore. Offshore bottom has been awesome on the days the wind lays down allow us to fish off the coast. The much anticipated mahi run starts any day now in April and usually last til june. Fishing only gets better and better as the water warms and reaches it peak in the Fall. Our Fishing here in Charleston SC is awesome in the spring from inshore to offshore, we love getting our rod tugged!

The trolling for Spanish Mackerel has just started biting well, we have also been catching some sheepshead on the shallow wrecks. The Bottom fishing has been good for vermilion snapper, white snapper, some triggerfish and lane snapper. The sea conditions and weather has been less than favorable but will soon turn for the better and be more like spring. Let’s go fishing!
