Managed to venture out a couple times within the past two weeks. This past Tuesday, the bite was hot... caught fish on everything we threw.... popping corks and Carolina rigs tipped with live shrimp, plus artificial lures. They’re still biting good... little warm front has then fired up!

The water has cooled off a bit so that means the trout bite is starting to pick up. You can target them on drop offs in most areas ranging from the flats, creeks and along the ICW on the shell banks. The reds are beginning to to school up better coming off of the spawn but with the high water it’s been difficult to find good slots but using a live mullet on a popping cork will work. Target them along the grass and oyster bars. The black drum are bitting steady near the inlets and deep holes in the creeks. Shrimp is always your best bait to entice them. The flounder bite has been decent still and the big girls have moved in to the ICW. Target them by using a 1/4oz jighead or smaller depending on the current with a live finger mullet, mud minnow or shrimp. Just be patient and you’ll hook up with some really nice flatties.

Fishing report 11/11/22 : Had the pleasure of fishing two great clients, Jorge and Rob. We started the day out free lining live mullet and jumbo shrimp to snook and rolling tarpon. After a couple missed hook ups we lost the moon over the horizon and the tarpon stopped rolling so we headed off into the back country. Searching out protected holes and cuts we started catching numbers of slot trout, redfish, and small snook on both live shrimp and artificials. Around noon we made our way back out of the back country, as the wind increased, and found safe harbor in a waterfront bar and grill to refuel for the afternoon fishing. Post chargrilled oysters and rum runners, Jorge and Rob returned to the flats to catch a handful more trout and redfish to bring the days total to somewhere around 20 trout, 7+ redfish, and 3 snook.

Texas City- The rock shoals near Dollar reef holding trout and redfish on soft plastics and shrimp The rocks just across Texas city channel are holding nice trout on split tail soft plastic. The dike is holding Trout and redfish at night under lights. Bull Redfish and Big Uglies are at the end of the dike. Galveston Bay- Bull Redfish are in the channel on both jetties from the middle’s to the ends on cut mullet, sand trout, or crab. The jetties holding sheepshead and Specks with Shrimp under popping cork or free line shrimp near the rocks. Trout fishing near drop off or deeper water. Swan lake rock shoals holding sheepshead on popping cork with live shrimp or paddle tails. Bolivar island- Goat island drains “water runoff into the open water”holding redfish and trout on top waters early and late, soft plastics later. Fish the cuts through the intracoastal waterway from Goat Island to rollover. Yates Bayou drains holding redfish on soft plastics and live shrimp under popping cork.

On the near shore ledges 10-20miles out there are still some grouper around. Pin fish or pogies on a Standard grouper rig has seem to be the best. There’s still plenty of red snapper around as well. On the jetties Tight to the rocks there have been a few trout and smaller redfish on your typical slip corks using live shrimp. Also if you can find some fiddler crabs there’s a few sheepshead around as well. In The back water creeks there has still been some small red fish, flounder and trout back up in some of the potholes typically we’ve been using finger mullet live shrimp or artificial baits like voodoo and gulp on a jig head. In some of the deeper channels leading up to some of these holes there has been a good push of trout ranging from 13 inches to 22 inches using slip corks with live shrimp and fishing them down towards the bottom. Don’t be surprised if you hook some flounder and black drum as well while doing this. This trout bite should continue to get better. In the ICW there’s been Some black drum in the channels around structure. They’ve been biting dead or live shrimp on the Carolina rig on the bottom. Along the creek mouths and shell banks There is a good number of trout right now that are focusing on that scattered shell bottom and tight to the grass on the higher tides. Use your slip cork with a live shrimp and drift it down along these banks. This pattern should continue to get better as we get later into the fall as the trout start to migrate to our area.
