    September and October were fabulous months out there. We had a very hot tarpon bite on the St. Johns River. We also had fair action on spotted seatrout, sandtrout and mangrove snapper. We caught a hand full of redfish and black bass in the brackish waters and we caught a couple of Bull Reds as well. Hurricane Ian wasn't severe in Jacksonville but we got a significant amount of rain which muddied the St. Johns River and slowed things down. The water should be cleared up any day now. As temperatures drop, I am expecting the snook to turn on in some of the river tributaries and redfish and spotted seatrout action should take off in the ICW. Sometimes the juvenile tarpon fishing can be good as well the water first cools.

    On the near shore ledges 10-20miles out there are still a good number of grouper around. Pin fish or pogies on a Standard grouper rig has seem to be the best. Don’t be surprised if you end up catching a bunch of red snapper as well and always have a pitch rod ready just in case a Cobia shows up. On the nearshore reefs is been a little slow with a Flounder bite. It seems to be we are on an inshore transition on the flounder at the moment but that should change in the next couple weeks as another push a fish should go back out to the reef. On the jetties There is still a little bit of a bull red fish Bite going on, typically Two hours before or after high or low tide. The best bait has been live pogies if you can find them but they will eat small croakers and fresh dead pogies as well. Tight to the rocks there have been a few trout and smaller redfish on your typical slip corks using live shrimp. In The back water creeks there have been some small red fish back up in some of the potholes typically we’ve been using finger mullet live shrimp or artificial baits like voodoo and gulp on a jig head.     Awesome weather has been the norm for the last few weeks. Light winds and cool temps have provided pleasant fishing conditions. The next couple of months should be excellent fishing on Galveston bay. Falling temps should trigger the shrimp to leave the marshes.     Corpus Christi and Baffin Bay fishing has been consistent but we have been moving and drifting alot more to pickup our limits. Once we get a cold blast of air fishing should improve especially for redfish which are starting their migration to the bays. Look for large schools in grass flats close to gulf outlets. Croaker season has come to a close but larger trout and redfish are still snacking on piggies in the medium size range. Drifting close to spoils has produced best results. Tight lines!

    October's off to a great start as our pelagic fish are starting to move south. The bait is plentiful inside the passes and around grass flats . We are consistently catching Cobia, bonita, kingfish and Spanish mackerel at the nearshore reefs using live Pilchards . Covering the entire water Column is key , triple tail are starting to be targeted as the stone crab traps are put out. Typically we run full speed by the stone trap bouys looking for triple tail and then we sight cast to them . October and November are prime triple tail months . Also this is a great time to target blacktip sharks under the schools of mackeral using cut bait on wire leaders . Inside the bay sea trout, snook and redfish are feeding before winter . Using live Pilchards is key. I typically am out an hour before the charter catching hundreds of live Pilchards giving us a great chance for a non stop fishing adventure.
