It has been on absolutely fire down here in Venice Louisiana. The trout and reds are stacked up in the passes. Everyone who has fished here for the last month and a half can’t believe how great the fishing is.

Fishing down in Shell Beach, Louisiana has been pretty good considering the unstable weather we’ve had. When it got cold for a few weeks the fish started moving close and stacking up, making it easy once you found the fish. Once it warmed up, they spread back out, and we had to go into our early fall patterns to find fish with any consistency. We still have live bait at the docks, so we still use it but it’s not necessarily needed. Throwing DOA shrimp under a cork or on the bottom has been great for us. Fish are scattered out some but once the temps drop back down this week, they will gather back up for an exciting and action-packed trip you won’t soon forget.

We've shot 14 species so far on the season and got our first canvasback of the year this weekend. We got 56 ducks and caught 7 reds in a day and a half! Oversized trout, hungry reds, and limits of ducks for this weekend!

The redfish and flounder bite have been consistent. We’re still targeting them in creek holes and creek mouths on mudminnows or live shrimp with a 1/4oz jighead. Don’t shy away from using a popping cork with at least a 18" leader and 1/0 circle hook. The trout bite has been good at times when water temps go down. Look for temps below 70 with good moving water for the best results using the same bait for flounder and reds. A bycatch of sheepshead and black drum will round out a successful day and just for fun throw in some ladyfish and blues and you’ll put a smile on some faces. Merry Christmas Capt. Mike

Water is cooling down and the fishing is heating up. Trout bite has been great on the creek mouths. Look for the spotty bottom with kelp grass for you best results. A lot of slot size redfish and over slot are on the outer islands and also in the creek mouths Feeding on mud minnows and shrimp. Incoming tide has the best bite. Mangrove snapper, snook, redfish, trout, and gag grouper as the weather gets colder the gags are gonna fire off even more. Tell them to hurry up and book for a gag grouper cause the season is gonna be shorter next year and this is gonna be the last Dec we get to keep gags.

Fish catching is really good! We're fishing areas that are protected from the winds. Drifting over scattered shell and sand/mud mix. Water depth 3-5 feet adjacent to deeper water. As long as it stays dry above the watershed of Galveston bay, the bite will continue to be good. We're using live shrimp under popping corks but at times you can catch them on lures.

The trout bite has decided picked up over the last few weeks. Still a good amount of slot reds running the flats as well. Spanish bite was good but definitely started to slow down. Founder opens back up today so we will start targeting them the next couple months
