Everything to Know About Booking a New Smyrna Beach kingfish fishing charter

What are the best kingfish fishing charters in New Smyrna Beach?

What is kingfish fishing in New Smyrna Beach all about?

New Smyrna Beach, situated along Florida's Atlantic coast, offers excellent opportunities for anglers to target kingfish, also known as king mackerel. These fast-swimming pelagic fish are highly prized for their aggressive strikes, strong fights, and delicious flesh, making them a popular target among both recreational and tournament anglers. Kingfish are commonly found in nearshore and offshore waters, particularly around reefs, wrecks, and artificial structures, where they feed on baitfish such as mullet, herring, and sardines.

Anglers in New Smyrna Beach employ various techniques to target kingfish, adapting their strategies to the prevailing conditions and the habits of these powerful fish. One popular method is trolling, where anglers use outriggers or planer boards to spread multiple lines behind the boat, each equipped with a rigged bait or artificial lure. Trolling allows anglers to cover a large area of water and locate schools of kingfish, particularly along drop-offs, ledges, or color changes where baitfish congregate. Additionally, live bait such as blue runners, cigar minnows, or pilchards can be slow-trolled to entice strikes from wary kingfish.

Another productive technique for kingfish fishing in New Smyrna Beach is drift fishing or slow trolling, particularly when targeting larger specimens. Anglers may drift with the current or use a controlled drift to cover specific areas where kingfish are known to frequent, such as underwater structures or bait pods. Slow trolling live baits or large artificial lures at varying depths can attract the attention of kingfish and trigger aggressive strikes. Anglers must be prepared for the blistering runs and acrobatic leaps of kingfish, as these fish are renowned for their fighting prowess. Overall, kingfish fishing in New Smyrna Beach offers anglers thrilling opportunities to reel in these coveted game fish and enjoy memorable battles on the water.

What are the most popular months to fish for kingfish fishing in New Smyrna Beach?

In New Smyrna Beach, Florida, kingfish seasons generally coincide with their migratory patterns and the prevailing weather conditions. Kingfish are most abundant in the waters off New Smyrna Beach during the spring and fall months, as they migrate along the Atlantic coast in search of warmer waters and abundant food sources. During these seasons, anglers can expect to encounter large schools of kingfish, particularly in nearshore and offshore waters, where they congregate around reefs, wrecks, and artificial structures.

Spring marks the beginning of the kingfish season in New Smyrna Beach, with the arrival of warmer temperatures and the northward migration of these pelagic fish. As water temperatures rise, kingfish become more active and are often found in shallower waters, particularly along the edges of the Gulf Stream and nearshore reefs. Anglers targeting kingfish during the spring season can expect to encounter aggressive strikes and thrilling battles as these powerful fish feed voraciously in preparation for spawning.

In the fall, kingfish season in New Smyrna Beach reaches its peak as cooler temperatures trigger the southward migration of these prized game fish. During this time, kingfish can be found in abundance offshore, particularly around wrecks, reefs, and other structure-rich areas where baitfish congregate. Anglers targeting kingfish during the fall season often encounter large schools of these fish, providing ample opportunities for successful outings. Overall, spring and fall are prime seasons for kingfish fishing in New Smyrna Beach, offering anglers thrilling opportunities to reel in these fast-swimming predators and enjoy memorable battles on the water.

By adjusting the kite's position and the depth of the baits, anglers can effectively entice strikes from kingfish while enjoying the exhilarating experience of watching the kite dance in the wind. We started at 7am and Capt Arron was ready and waiting. He took us right out to a couple of sunken reefs and we started catching fish right away. Hooked a 5.5 foot black tip shark and alot of other fish. I would recomend this charter any day of the week.

I got the impression that the mate was newer deckhand. The mate did well but obviously had a few things to learn. Sorry I forgot his name. As for our captain, instead of the captain jumping in and helping the mate, he was too busy fishing himself. They both basically got lost in what they were doing instead of putting the clients first. Overall we had a good experience and reeled up plenty of fish.
