trip description for Okeechobee Alligator: 9’-9’11" in Okeechobee

*This trip includes one 9'-9'11" Gator!* Alligator hunting in Florida is not for the timid or faint of heart! Here we provide you with a safe, fun, and exciting alligator hunt year-round. We offer both private and public land alligator hunts. On our private land hunts, we either hunt nuisance gators that are a threat to people or animals on close or surrounding ranches or in our private hunting preserve - which guarantees a harvest. Our private land hunts are “spot and stalk” on a pond or canal. If we find a gator laying on a bank, we will try to sneak up as closely as possible to get a brain kill shot. The size of a gator’s brain is about the size of a golf ball. If we do not see one on a bank but in one of the ponds or canals, then it becomes alligator fishing. At that time the hunter will try to snag the gator and fight it on rod and reel until it tires out and surfaces. At that time, the hunter will take the shot at the gator on the surface. You can use rifle, handgun, bang stick or bow to harvest your alligator. With our public land hunts, the hunter is required to either apply and draw a tag via a state lottery system or purchase a state public land tag from one of our guides when available and in season. These hunts take place on either an air boat or a flats boat with a seasoned gator hunting guide. If you are successful and harvest your gator then we will be able to arrange for the processing of your meat and taxidermy service by a local licensed processor/taxidermist if desired. Read More

trip description for Okeechobee Pheasant Frenzy! in Okeechobee

*Only 2 more dates available this season!* Pheasant hunts at Florida Hunting Adventures takes place in a semi-wooded area with a 45 foot tower centered in an oak hammock. We have 12 stations with a 2-hunter maximum per station approximately 100 yards from the tower. Pheasants are released over 12 time slots with each hunter rotating clockwise providing the opportunity to shoot from each station. Some stations are more challenging than others based on the terrain. The actual hunt is about 3 hours in duration, and we recommend using a 12 gauge with number 6 heavy loads and a modified choke. Safety glasses are mandatory and hearing protection is recommended. During an orderly clockwise rotation signaled by a horn from the tower, the downed birds will be retrieved by your guides and dogs. Refreshments and restocking of shells are provided in the field during rotations. At the end of the hunt, everyone returns to the lodge for a rustic Okeechobee lunch. During lunch, your guides will clean and process your pheasants to be shared equally between hunters. Expected total duration time for the day is 6-7 hours. We ask for hunters to arrive between 7:30 – 8:00 am. We will have a light breakfast and meet & greet at the lodge to get acquainted with one another. Hunting buggies depart promptly from the lodge at 8:45 am for the 15-20-minute drive to the pheasant hunting fields. Pheasant hunts are distinctly social events promoting good camaraderie between hunters. Private, corporate pheasant shooting events are available upon request. Bring a cooler and we have the ice! We are looking forward to hunting with you. Read More

Home to the renowned Lake Okeechobee, often referred to as Florida's "Inland Sea," this area boasts some of the best freshwater fishing in the state. Anglers flock to Lake Okeechobee year-round in pursuit of trophy largemouth bass, which thrive in the lake's vast waters. Whether casting from the shore, navigating the labyrinth of canals and channels, or chartering a boat with an experienced guide, anglers can enjoy endless opportunities to reel in big bass and create unforgettable fishing memories.

Aside from bass fishing, Lake Okeechobee offers a wealth of other angling opportunities. The lake is teeming with a variety of fish species, including crappie, bluegill, catfish, and more. Anglers can target these species using a variety of techniques, from trolling with live bait or artificial lures to bottom fishing with cut bait or worms. Whether fishing from a boat, kayak, or the shoreline, anglers in Okeechobee can enjoy a diverse range of fishing experiences and the chance to reel in a variety of prized catches.

Beyond Lake Okeechobee, Okeechobee County is also home to numerous other fishing hotspots. The Kissimmee River, which flows into Lake Okeechobee, provides excellent opportunities for bass fishing, particularly in its upper reaches where anglers can explore remote backwaters and scenic marshes. Additionally, the area boasts numerous canals, ponds, and reservoirs that offer freshwater angling opportunities for anglers of all levels. With its abundance of fishing options and stunning natural beauty, Okeechobee is truly a paradise for anglers seeking adventure and excitement on the water.

What are the most popular months to fish in Okeechobee?

The most popular months for fishing in Okeechobee typically fall within the cooler, drier months of the year, which coincide with the late fall, winter, and early spring seasons. This is primarily due to the fact that during these months, the water temperatures are more comfortable for both anglers and fish, leading to increased fish activity and feeding behavior. Additionally, the cooler temperatures tend to result in less recreational boat traffic on the water, creating a more tranquil fishing experience.

Specifically, the months of November through March are considered prime fishing season in Okeechobee. During this time, anglers have the opportunity to target trophy largemouth bass as they congregate in shallower waters to spawn. The cooler temperatures also trigger the migration of baitfish, which in turn attracts predatory gamefish such as bass, crappie, and catfish.

While fishing can be productive year-round in Okeechobee, the winter months tend to offer some of the best fishing conditions and opportunities for anglers to reel in trophy-sized catches. However, it's worth noting that fishing in Okeechobee can still be enjoyable during the warmer months, particularly for those targeting species such as bluegill, shellcracker, and catfish. Mike was an amazing host. Took my 9 year old grandson who doesn’t fish very much and taught him quickly how to live line shiners for some very large bass. We went through 4 dozen baits in three hours and I am guessing we caught around 20 bass up to 8 pounds. He has the patience you need and a lot of fun to fish with. Highly recommend!
