About Your Trip

Step into the shallow water paradise of the Florida Keys with Captain Grif and experience the thrill of custom saltwater fishing like never before! Based in Key West and exploring the endless flats, reefs, and remote islands of the Marquesas, Captain Grif offers unforgettable guided charters tailored to the seasons, the bite, and your own fishing goals.

With over 20 years of guiding experience in the Lower Keys, Captain Grif is known as one of
Key West’s premier light tackle and flats fishing guides. His passion runs deep—so deep that even on his rare days off, you’ll still find him on the water, chasing fish across the backcountry. Whether you’re sight casting to tailing Bonefish, stalking Permit in skinny water, or throwing flies at rolling Tarpon, Captain Grif’s skill, patience, and local knowledge will get you dialed in fast.

A day with Grif might include drifting the vibrant reefs, working structure for Cobia and Barracuda, or poling across gin-clear flats for a shot at the legendary Grand Slam—Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit. If you're looking for something different, he also offers wreck fishing, shark trips, and even lobster charters for a chance to dive into the region's prized Spiny Lobsters.

You’ll be fishing from Captain Grif’s first-generation Maverick Mirage—a true icon in the world of flats skiffs. Built in 1993 and still quietly gliding through shallow water like a Cadillac, this classic vessel is known for its stealth, comfort, and fishability. Outfitted with top-of-the-line fly rods, spinning gear, and YETI coolers, it’s the perfect platform for both seasoned anglers and newcomers alike.

From technical sight fishing to laid-back reef trips, Captain Grif will customize your charter to suit your preferences and the conditions—no cookie-cutter trips here. He’s also fantastic with beginners and welcomes anglers of all experience levels, so don’t worry if it’s your first time on the flats.

Whether you're looking to land your first Permit, battle a Tarpon on light tackle, or just soak in the beauty of the Keys with a rod in hand, Captain Grif is ready to show you why these waters are world-famous.

Book your adventure today and get ready for a Florida Keys fishing trip you'll never forget!

About Your Guide

Grif H.

Independent Guide
A seemingly endangered species here in the Keys, Grif is our native Floridian. Born and raised in Jacksonville he started gaining his experience in the salt at a very young age. It didn’t take him too long to go from a little kid scooping shrimp to a man who was a well respected off shore captain. His reputation quickly earned him a position on multiple tournament and trophy fishing yachts throughout the Caribbean and Central America. In short Grif has caught a lot of really cool fish, off some really cool boats, in some really cool places, and now he lives in Key West. Ya, he’s pretty laid back! Don’t let that fool you though, beneath that easy going exterior is a driven and talented fisherman that works his butt off to make your day. Grif enjoys teaching as much as catching and all skill levels are welcome. If you pay attention while you’re out with him for the day, you likely take home more than just dinner. Grif traded yachts for a skiff when he moved to Key West and runs it out of Conch Harbor. The transition to the flats was a natural move for Grif and he’s become just as successful inshore as he was off. If your dream is to fish some of the most beautiful and famed flats in our sport Grif is the man to show them to you.
