About Your Trip

Give your young anglers their first taste of Outer Banks fishing on a 2- or 3-hour adventure designed specifically with kids and families in mind!

Captain John will keep you in the calmer inshore waters around Manteo, where the focus is on finding steady action and giving kids plenty of opportunities to get involved. Depending on the trip and what's biting, you could target Pinfish, White Croaker, Redfish, Bluefish, Black Drum, and other inshore species.

The 2-hour option is perfect for younger kids and first-time anglers. John will keep things simple and fun, primarily using light tackle and bottom fishing to target cooperative species like Pinfish and Croaker. The shorter duration gives kids enough time to learn the basics, catch some fish, and enjoy being on the boat without stretching their attention spans too far.

Step up to the 3-hour option for a little more time to explore the local fishery. The extra hour gives John additional flexibility to move between spots and potentially target species like Redfish, Bluefish, and Black Drum while still keeping the experience approachable for young anglers and beginners.

John will help kids learn how to use their equipment, bait a hook, feel for bites, fight their fish, and safely bring their catch aboard. The emphasis is on keeping everyone involved and making fishing something they'll be excited to do again.

You'll fish aboard a 23' center console powered by a 250HP Yamaha. Rods, reels, tackle, lures, live bait, and fishing licenses are all provided, so families can simply bring food and drinks, sun protection, weather-appropriate clothing, and a camera for those first-fish photos.

Whether you choose 2 or 3 hours, John will keep the experience patient, relaxed, and focused on creating a fun introduction to Outer Banks fishing for the whole family.

Captain John is a North Carolina native who developed his passion for fishing along the state's coastal waters at a young age. After years spent learning the local fishery, he now enjoys sharing his knowledge of Manteo and the Outer Banks with anglers of all experience levels.

John is equally comfortable helping a child reel in their first fish, teaching a beginner the basics of inshore fishing, or taking experienced anglers out for a longer day chasing seasonal opportunities. He
prides himself on creating a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere while adjusting each trip around the conditions and goals of his guests.

Whether you're spending a couple of hours introducing the kids to fishing or dedicating a full day to exploring the inshore and nearshore waters of the Outer Banks, John brings local knowledge, patience, and a genuine enthusiasm for fishing to every trip.
