The Pacific coast of Guatemala is renowned for its calm waters and exceptional billfishing, particularly in Puerto Quetzal, one of the best Sailfishing destinations in the world. Here, anglers can expect 15–20 Sailfish bites per day, with peak season (October–June) sometimes delivering up to 40 bites daily. Top captains in the area catch and release over 2,000 Sailfish each year! In addition to Sailfish, these waters are prime territory for massive Tuna and Marlin. With Blue Marlin averaging 300–600 pounds, this trip is perfect for anyone looking to break a personal record. The best months for Marlin fishing are September through December, but these giants can be caught year-round.

You’ll fish the “Pocket,” a 30-nautical-mile-wide underwater canyon famous for its rich marine life. Most days, Captain Ozzy starts fishing just 12–15 miles offshore at the canyon’s edge, though he’s willing to venture as far as 40 miles if needed to find the bite. Target species include Sailfish, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Black Marlin, and more. In recent years, raising four or more Marlin in a single day has become a common achievement for top captains.

To ensure you’re set up for success, Captain Ozzy employs a variety of techniques such as trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, and both light and heavy tackle. Fly fishing is also an option for those seeking a unique challenge. For billfish, you’ll use artificial teasers and rigged natural bait like ballyhoo. All tackle is Shimano 20–50 lb class stand-up gear, and conservation is a priority—circle hooks are standard, and all billfishing is strictly catch-and-release to preserve the ecosystem for future generations.

With the "Luxury Package," Captain Ozzy accommodates up to five anglers aboard one of three meticulously maintained sportfishing vessels: a 40’ Luhrs Flybridge, a 35’ Luhrs Flybridge with a cruising speed of 24 knots, or a 35’ Viking-Open Flybridge powered by Twin Cat 420 HP engines with a cruising speed of 26 knots. Each boat features a fully air-conditioned cabin, private rooms, and essential amenities to ensure a comfortable and safe offshore experience. Book a trip to experience the best Sailfishing in the world. 15-20 eats/day is par for the course, while 40 daily bites is common most of the year from October through June . These Pacific Sailfish average 90 to 100 pounds, but sailfish over 125 pounds are common.

Bill fishing in Guatemala takes place only 12-40 miles offshore in the "Pocket", a deep underwater canyon just off the Guatemalan Pacific coast.

Marlin fishing out of Puerto Quetzal is especially renowned. Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin and Black Marlin are all caught with relative consistency, with 300-600 pound Blue Marlin proving most common. Marlin fishing is hottest from September through December.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 30 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 30 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.
