If you’re looking for a true Southern California offshore adventure, Captain Zeek’s Coronado Islands trip is the one to beat. This full-day experience takes you south of the border to the legendary waters surrounding Mexico’s Coronado Islands—home to some of the most productive fishing grounds in the region. With towering cliffs, deep structure, and nutrient-rich currents, these islands offer the perfect environment for a wide variety of game fish. Just don’t forget your passport—you’ll need it to enter Mexican waters and make the most of this incredible opportunity.

You'll be making the run aboard Captain Zeek’s custom 49’ Shaw-Westport sportfisher, a USCG UPV Inspected vessel that blends serious offshore capability with the comfort of home. Outfitted with GPS, radar, outriggers, a live bait well, and a full suite of electronics, this boat is built to get you on the fish and keep you dialed in all day long. Inside, you’ll find full-sized beds, a dining area, a kitchen, a fridge, a full bathroom with shower, and air conditioning to help you recharge between bites. With room for up to six passengers, there’s plenty of space for the whole crew to spread out and fish comfortably.

This trip typically features a blend of trolling, jigging, popping, and bottom fishing, depending on what’s running and where the fish are holding. Captain Zeek will tailor your techniques based on the season, conditions, and target species, drawing on over two decades of experience in these waters. Common catches include Yellowtail Amberjack, White Seabass, Rockfish, Lingcod, Pacific Barracuda, and Halibut. And when the timing is right, you might even run into schools of Bluefin or Yellowfin Tuna—or find Mahi Mahi lurking under offshore kelp paddies.

All rods, reels, lures, and tackle are included, along with fresh live bait caught in advance. Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks are also provided to keep you going throughout the day. You’re welcome to bring your own alcohol in moderation—just no glass bottles, please. A First Mate may join the trip to assist with rigging, gaffing, and overall operations; a 15–20% tip is customary and always appreciated for their hard work.

Before heading out, make sure everyone in your group purchases a California fishing license and secures the required documentation for fishing in Mexican waters—including a valid passport. Captain Zeek will provide guidance on what you’ll need and how to get it ahead of time.

Born and raised in the vibrant fishing community of Point Loma, Captain Zeek began working as a deckhand on fishing boats at just ten years old. In the years since then, he has worked consistently to improve his knowledge of the Southern California fishery, Boasting many notable catches including a 520lb swordfish and a 360lb Bluefin tuna. All gear is included, but we also recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and any gear of your own you want to use on the trip.

You'll need to buy a fishing license before getting out there. Find out more about licenses here.

This trip is managed by an outfitter. Ezekiel will be your point of contact and you will go out with one of their guides.

We use a cashless autopay system. We'll send you a boarding pass, and on the day of the trip, your guide will scan your boarding pass to automatically transfer the remaining balance. The only cash needed is to tip your guide (we recommend 20%).

Cancel for free up to 14 days before the trip and receive credit back to your account. Cancelling within 14 of the trip will forfeit your deposit to the guide. Day-of cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full balance of the trip to their card.

In the event of inclement weather you'll be covered by out 100% Weather Guarantee and will not lose your deposit.

In the event of inclement weather, our guides will check the conditions and make the final call on whether its safe to go on the trip. If they decide the trip needs to be postponed, we'll work closely with you to reschedule or provide a credit for the full deposit, which can be applied to any of our trips in the US and beyond.

Each trip's price is determined by the guide and reflects all associated costs. A significant factor in pricing is often the type of boat and the corresponding fuel expenses. Additional costs may include leases, marina or slip fees, and the expenses involved in providing and maintaining the necessary gear for your trip.
