Kicking off the month of May exactly how it should start with sight fishing big Permit and Tarpon. This is the best time of the year to target these bucket list game fish and this is primetime to catch both of them in the same day. We have strong numbers of Tarpon migrating our beaches and there are massive schools of Permit offshore. These two fish will be our main emphasis over the next couple of months but that doesn't mean there aren't other options as well. There have still been some straggler Cobia hanging out offshore which has been nice while we look for Permit. Most of the wrecks offshore are also littered with Amberjacks which are fun to tease and throw artificial baits at. These are also great fly targets for any avid fly fishermen. Closeby there are great numbers of Snook inshore and nearshore. They're gearing up for their annual spawn and will be very hungry as we progress into summer. Our water clarity has been about as good as it gets which makes for some awesome sight fishing on all of the previous listed species. This is the peak time of the year for sport fishing in our area! We are looking forward to many great trips with all of our clients. Reach out to any of us with any questions you may have. Happy fishing!

The bay fishing around South Padre has been good if you like catching redfish. The spring winds have been howling and are leading anglers out onto the flats in pursuit of the redfish or red drum. This time of year we have an influx of bait that migrates into the Lower Laguna Madre Bay System and the gamefish like redfish and speckled trout follow the bait. Mix the bait migration with the high winds and you've got the recipe for redfish on the hook. I've been catching some solid speckled trout on soft plastics along color changes. The black drum are here also, just harder to find when the winds stir everything up. This is a great time of the year to get on down here around South Padre and wet a line for redfish. The end on May has always been a prime time to speckled trout fish. Those spring winds tend to die off and the speckled trout are thick in areas

The spring bite is in full swing and the days of catching big powerful predators is back. Snook trout and redfish have been off the charts. At the same time tarpon are showing up in full force from their winter hiatus. Bait fish have been pretty easy to come by most mornings and these fish are ready and willing to eat every bait you put in their vicinity.

Redfish has been great with the falling tides due and low water levels to the dry fronts we have been receiving. Also lots of tidal movement with this full moon. Black drum are on the flats and near points that have shell.

The red drum have started to break up from their winter schools and have become much more active. Catching fish on cut baits and fresh shrimp as well as artificial and top water baits. The black drum bite has been very productive catching fishing along boat docks fishing fresh shrimp. The near shore action has by far been the best. The Atlantic bonito have shown up and have been all up and down the beach trolling deep divers and casting at fish on the surface. There have been a few Spanish mackerel around but the numbers have not shown up but expect to see them any day now!
