Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

Orange Beach Fishing Overview

Orange Beach is one of the most popular vacation destinations on the Gulf Coast. Over 15,000 nearshore artificial reef structures cover more than 1,000 square miles of seafloor. Highly productive deep sea waters and an expansive inshore fishery make Orange Beach fishing charters an angler's paradise.

Whether you're on family vacation looking for a fun day on the water, or you're a hardcore angler who'd rather be on the water than the beach, Orange Beach fishing charters have it all. Hot summers and moderate winters mean something is always biting.

Inshore Fishing in Orange Beach

For the inshore angler, Orange Beach fishing charters are unbeatable. The bite is on year-round, from the artificial reef structures in Perdido Bay to the mudflats and bayou backwaters. With Bon Secour Bay to the west and Pensacola Bay to the east, this interconnected waterway has some of the best fishing in the Gulf.

Orange Beach has fishing charters for all ages and all experience levels. Inshore trips often produce very well in the winter, sometimes better than the summer. The Black Drum migration begins in February, with the potential of 40-50 pounders.

When the waters cool down, the inshore fish generally tend to move into shallower waters. Sight fishing for bull Redfish can be done in the cooler months, while deeper water bay fishing works well in the summer. Speckled Trout, Sheepshead, Flounder, and other inshore species can be caught throughout the year.

Nearshore and Offshore Fishing in Orange Beach

For those looking to leave land behind deep-sea fishing Orange Beach, there are thousands of artificial reef structures within 9 miles of Orange Beach. Here you'll find over 1,000 square miles of fishing action, with species like Amberjack, Red Snapper, and Grouper that reach massive sizes. Starting in March, Cobia is a popular species to target as they stop by on their migration.

Starting in May the deep sea season begins, with trips heading 40-160 miles offshore. May brings trolling bluewater for Wahoo and Mackerel, while the bottom fishing also stays hot for Grouper. June brings Red Snapper season—the crown jewel of Orange Beach deep sea fishing. Offshore hits peak season in the summer, with extended day trips getting on Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna, Sailfish, and Marlin.

Bobby was incredible. He put us on spot after spot fighting these fish after a full moon. He was on point every time a bait was taken replacing it and throwing the lines back out. Even if we didn’t catch a feast, we have a great time making memories!

Bobby was absolutely wonderful making sure all of us were having a great time during our 3 hour trip. He explained the various techniques of fishing that we used and helped my first-time-boat-fishing 8-yr old grandson land a red drum! He was quick to leave and head for a better spot when the fish stopped biting. We got a gafftopsail catfish and speckled trout that were keepers (the red drum was too big to keep). Bobby was exceptional at coordinating the fishing lines and making sure everyone was baited and actively fishing. It was a great day and I hope we can return for another trip in the not too distant future!

Captain Bobby put us on the fish today! He offered us a laid back but highly productive trip. 3 hrs went by far too fast! It seemed like our rods were bent nearly half the time. Good advice on local hangouts/restaurants too. Highly recommend!
