What are the best snook fishing charters in Key Largo?

What is snook fishing in Key Largo all about?

In Key Largo, snook are prized game fish known for their powerful strikes, spirited fights, and elusive nature. These sleek and silver-colored fish inhabit the coastal waters, mangrove shorelines, flats, and estuaries around Key Largo, making them a popular target for anglers seeking a challenging and rewarding fishing experience. Snook are known for their ability to ambush prey in shallow waters, using their stealth and agility to outmaneuver and capture their food.

Anglers in Key Largo employ various techniques to target snook, with live bait fishing and artificial lure presentations being among the most effective methods. Live bait fishing with shrimp, pinfish, mullet, or pilchards is a popular choice for targeting snook in Key Largo, particularly around mangrove shorelines, docks, and structure-filled areas. Anglers can present live baits either by casting near likely snook habitats or by free-lining baits along current edges and tidal flows, enticing strikes from these voracious predators.

Artificial lures such as jerkbaits, swimbaits, topwater plugs, and soft plastic jigs are also effective for targeting snook in Key Largo. Anglers can work these lures along mangrove shorelines, flats, and structure-filled areas, imitating the movements of baitfish and enticing strikes from snook. Working lures with erratic retrieves, pauses, and twitches can trigger aggressive strikes from snook, providing anglers with exciting fishing experiences. With their stealthy behavior and impressive fighting abilities, snook offer anglers in Key Largo the opportunity for thrilling encounters and memorable catches in the pristine waters of the Florida Keys.

From the moment we stepped on the boat, it felt like we’d known Capt. Mike forever. He delivered exactly what he promised — a true backwater experience. First cast of the day? A Goliath Grouper. Moments later, a solid Snook. We had multiple hookups after that, though a few were lost in the structure (totally on us). When the tide shifted, Capt. Mike made quick adjustments and put us right back on the fish. He even gave us the choice to chase trout and reds, but we wanted Snook and Grouper — and he delivered! Per my wife’s request, he took us to see crocodiles and manatees, which absolutely made her day. On the way back, we spent time with a playful pod of bottlenose dolphins — an unforgettable bonus. If you love the idea of feeding tarpon at Robbie’s, just book a trip with Capt. Mike — you can have that same thrilling experience right at the end of your day on the water. A fantastic half-day, lifetime memories with my wife, and the pleasure of fishing with a genuinely great guy. We will absolutely book with Capt. Mike again. Highly recommended!
