trip description for Yellowfin & Mahi Mahi Combo in Hatteras

In April and May, the weather is beautiful, the Yellowfin are biting, and Captain Mike and his crew are ready to have you aboard for an unforgettable Gulf Stream Fishing experience. Fishing the waters of the Outer Banks can be VERY fruitful, but there is more than one reason to go with an experienced captain who has fished these waters firsthand for over 3 decades like Captain Mike! In April, Yellowfin Tuna is going to be yourr main catch. Yellowfin tunas put up a great fight and are typically in big schools so multiple hookups are a common occurrence; It is not unusual to hook one on every line. As May comes along, target species largely depends on the water temperatures. If the temperatures stay cool the Yellowfin tuna will hang around longer but when the temperature begins to rise the Marlins and Dolphin begin to appear. As water temperatures begin to rise they get a great run of gaffer dolphins. Gaffer dolphins are larger dolphins that get their name because you need a gaff to get them in the boat. When the gaffer dolphin first show up it is not unusual for us to catch a limit of these big dolphins which is a whole lot of meat for the freezer! During both months, there is also the chance to catch wahoo and Blue Marlin aboard these extended day adventures with Captain Mike. The Hatteras Blue is a very wide & stable 48’ Carolina Sport Fisherman built by Buddy Harris. She is built like a tank, USCG approved and outfitted with an air-conditioned cabin, a comfortable head, and the most up-to-date electronics and safety equipment. Captain Mike keeps his boat fully equipped with custom big game tackle, a big game fighting chair, fish finders, Japanese green stick, standing belts, and endless tackle and bait.
