trip description for New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Tarpon in Edgewater

We are in full blown tarpon season now!! Book now for the fight of a life with the most powerful saltwater light tackle gamefish on earth! The tarpon, Atlantic tarpon or also called the silver king are one of the number one targeted sport fish on the earth. These fish are some of the best fighting fish anglers have come across with using light tackle. Central Florida offers a wide selection of two different tarpon fishing charters in the area and this is the closest tarpon fishing near Orlando you will find. We target big tarpon here throughout the warmer months in the spring through the fall along the beaches, just outside the inlets. The backcountry tarpon fishing is done on the Mosquito Lagoon Indian River year round on the flats in New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ponce Inlet, Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. Typically April through November, with May, June, July, August, September and October being prime time for big beach, nearshore and backcountry tarpon. However the smaller tarpon can be found throughout the area year round in the far backcountry waters of the Indian River, Banana River, Sebastian Inlet and the Mosquito Lagoon. These fish range around 5 to 20 pounds, which are perfect for light tackle applications of both spin and fly. Along the beaches on the nearshore fishing trips is where you will find the 100 plus pound tarpon. These begin showing up in April and is in full force all summer long. On these charters we also have a chance to catch several other fish as well, just not tarpon. Snook and redfish are in the same areas. Read More

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. My 9 year old son and I had a wonderful time. Captain Neal was friendly and informative. We caught trout, sailcat, and hooked and saw a tarpon but it broke the line about 10-15 feet from the boat. It was amazing. We are returning to Florida in December and we will be booking with Captain Neal again.

Spent a half day out with Captain Kenneth! Had an amazing day fishing for black drum, mango snapper, tarpon, and snook. He did an awesome job running the boat and keeping everyone going and hooking the big ones! The questionable weather in Florida didn’t stop us from having a good time. Thank you for the great day!

We loved our trip with Captain Neal! Him and his family have so much interesting history with the town and river. You can tell he’s a very experienced fisherman through his knowledge of the best fishing spots and the species. He’s friendly and has a great sense of humor. We caught a lot of black drum and red drum along with snook and spotted trout. It was a great time even in the off season. Highly suggest Neal for your quick morning trip!
