What types of river fishing trips are common?

The most commonly sought after species for river fishing are: 1. rainbow trout, 2. brown trout, 3. redfish, 4. speckled trout, and 5. chinook salmon.

The most common fishing techniques are light tackle fishing, artificial lure fishing, and fly fishing but drift fishing and live bait fishing are popular as well.

How much does a river fishing trip cost?

Prices for river fishing can range anywhere from about $400 to $2,065, but the average price for a half day trip for river fishing is $661. The average price for a full day trip for river fishing is $2,200.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for river fishing?

The most popular season for river fishing is summer, and most anglers book their trips 34 days in advance.

Do I need a fishing license and what are the bag limits?

See here for more information on fishing licenses, bag limits, and fishing season regulations. When in doubt, your guide will always know all the relevant rules and regulations.

Aaron was an outstanding guide. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, patient, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure you have a great day on the water. My cousin and I caught a ton of bass, learned new techniques, and had an absolute blast. If you’re looking for a guide in the Austin area, book with Aaron—you won’t regret it! We’ll definitely be fishing with him again.

Brock is hilarious, charismatic, and kind captain. Throughout the whole trip he tried his absolute hardest to put us on fish, all while chatting with us and showing us Manatees, turtles, birds, etc. He is very knowledgeable about the area and clearly knows what he is doing. We highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience fishing a great time fishing in the Everglades, kids, teens, or adults. It is clear that he is dedicated to this job and will not stop trying to make it a successful day for you. Thanks Brock!

Our trip with Christian was awesome! I had never booked a guided trip before. He was very helpful and got us right into the action. He helped explain to us how to get the fish to bite and the fish were biting pretty consistently. We went to several different spots to try for different fish and we succeeded at nearly every spot. The website was also super easy for booking and paying.
