What types of river fishing trips are common?

The most commonly sought after species for river fishing are: 1. guadalupe bass, 2. largemouth bass, 3. striped bass, 4. white bass, and 5. arctic char.

The most common fishing techniques are artificial lure fishing, light tackle fishing, and topwater fishing but fly fishing and drift fishing are popular as well.

How much does a river fishing trip cost?

Prices for river fishing can range anywhere from about $450 to $4,000, but the average price for a half day trip for river fishing is $709. The average price for a full day trip for river fishing is $2,998.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for river fishing?

The most popular season for river fishing is summer, and most anglers book their trips 37 days in advance.

Do I need a fishing license and what are the bag limits?

See here for more information on fishing licenses, bag limits, and fishing season regulations. When in doubt, your fishing guide will always know the right rules and regulations.

Carlo was an EXCELLENT captain. As knowledgeable and friendly of a guide as you can get. Taught us a ton and most importantly, put us on fish! Can't recommend him enough.

We had an amazing experience thanks to Captain Mike. We were sort of unlucky since gars were not attracted to our baits on that day, but captain Mike tried his best to catch a gigantic alligator gar and we finally got one. You may never experience this anywhere else. Please note that this alligator gar trip begins in Corsicana, not De Soto.

Our guide was Justin through Garzilla. We had a blast. He was funny, nice, and he got us fish real fast. He was on time and didn't make us wait. All around, great guy and great charter. 100% worth the money if you wanna catch some big ones.

Captain Carlo was awesome! He took our family of four out for my kids’ first time fishing and we had a fantastic time! He was patient with our two young kids (6 & 4), did a great job teaching all of us, and showing us the sights around the Charleston harbor. Would not hesitate for a second go book with him again!
