trip description for New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Tarpon in Edgewater

We are in full blown tarpon season now!! Book now for the fight of a life with the most powerful saltwater light tackle gamefish on earth! The tarpon, Atlantic tarpon or also called the silver king are one of the number one targeted sport fish on the earth. These fish are some of the best fighting fish anglers have come across with using light tackle. Central Florida offers a wide selection of two different tarpon fishing charters in the area and this is the closest tarpon fishing near Orlando you will find. We target big tarpon here throughout the warmer months in the spring through the fall along the beaches, just outside the inlets. The backcountry tarpon fishing is done on the Mosquito Lagoon Indian River year round on the flats in New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ponce Inlet, Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. Typically April through November, with May, June, July, August, September and October being prime time for big beach, nearshore and backcountry tarpon. However the smaller tarpon can be found throughout the area year round in the far backcountry waters of the Indian River, Banana River, Sebastian Inlet and the Mosquito Lagoon. These fish range around 5 to 20 pounds, which are perfect for light tackle applications of both spin and fly. Along the beaches on the nearshore fishing trips is where you will find the 100 plus pound tarpon. These begin showing up in April and is in full force all summer long. On these charters we also have a chance to catch several other fish as well, just not tarpon. Snook and redfish are in the same areas. Read More

trip description for Awesome Saltwater Fly Fishing in Allenhurst

You will be sight fishing from the bow of a flats skiff in the Mosquito Lagoon or Indian River Lagoon. Despite the scary name, there are no mosquitoes on the water. With clear skies and water, you can see fish within casting distance. In addition, we look for tails, fins, and wakes from single fish, groups or schools. Year round targets include redfish (red drum), spotted seatrout, and black drum. Seasonal catches may include tarpon and snook. Your captain has nearly 20 years of guiding experience specializing in sight fishing these waters. Capt. Chris is a certified fly casting instructor with the FFI for those wanting to improve their cast. Fly fishing in this area is primarily sight fishing which means you are casting at specific targets. 7 weight rods are used most often with 5, 9, and 12 wt rods for specific species. This trip is not for beginner level fly anglers due to the need for speed and accuracy in casting. I can provide all tackle and flies at no additional charge, or you may bring your own. In the event conditions for fly fishing are not optimal, spinning tackle will also be available on board. Fly fishing trips are usually started at first light unless otherwise dictated by weather or other factors discussed in advance. All trips are catch, photo, release only. Read More

What types of fishing are popular in Banana River?

In Banana River, anglers have a diverse range of fishing techniques at their disposal, each offering its own unique challenges and rewards. One popular method is sight fishing, particularly favored in the shallow flats of the river. Anglers carefully scan the clear waters for signs of movement, such as the subtle ripple of a feeding fish or the telltale shadow of a cruising redfish. Armed with lightweight tackle and often using fly rods or spinning gear, sight anglers stealthily approach their targets, presenting lures or bait with precision to entice a strike. This method requires patience, keen observation, and precise casting skills but can result in exhilarating hookups and memorable battles with prized gamefish.

For those who prefer a more relaxed approach, drift fishing is a popular technique employed in Banana River's deeper channels and open waters. Anglers allow the natural currents to carry their baits or lures along with the flow, covering a wide area and presenting their offerings to a variety of species. Whether targeting speckled trout, snook, or flounder, drift fishing allows anglers to explore different depths and structures while enjoying the serenity of the river's scenic surroundings. With the right combination of bait selection and drift speed, anglers can increase their chances of enticing strikes from a diverse range of fish species that call Banana River home.

Another favored method of fishing in Banana River is kayak fishing, which offers anglers a unique and immersive experience on the water. Kayaks provide access to shallow flats and secluded areas that may be inaccessible to larger boats, allowing anglers to explore hidden coves, mangrove shorelines, and oyster bars teeming with fish. Whether paddling along the shoreline or anchoring in a productive spot, kayak anglers can enjoy the freedom to maneuver quietly and efficiently while casting to their desired targets. This close-to-nature approach often yields exciting encounters with redfish, snook, and other inshore species, making kayak fishing a popular choice for both beginners and seasoned anglers alike seeking adventure in Banana River's pristine waters.

In Banana River, anglers are spoiled for choice when it comes to the variety of fish species they can target throughout the year. One of the most sought-after species is the redfish, known for its powerful runs and thrilling fights. These bronze-colored beauties can be found prowling the shallows and grassy flats of the river, often tailing or cruising in search of prey. Whether you prefer sight fishing with artificial lures or presenting live bait along the mangrove edges, targeting redfish in Banana River promises exciting opportunities for anglers of all skill levels.

Another prized catch in Banana River is the spotted sea trout, a popular inshore species known for its delicious flesh and aggressive strikes. Trout can be found throughout the river, particularly in deeper channels, around oyster bars, and near grassy flats. Anglers often target trout using a variety of techniques, including live bait fishing with shrimp or mullet, casting soft plastic lures, or drifting with artificial bait rigs. With their voracious appetites and willingness to strike at a variety of presentations, spotted sea trout provide anglers with plenty of action and opportunities for success.

For those seeking an adrenaline-pumping challenge, Banana River also offers opportunities to target hard-fighting species such as snook and tarpon. These elusive predators can be found lurking around mangrove shorelines, bridge pilings, and deeper channels, where they ambush unsuspecting prey with lightning-fast strikes. Landing one of these prized gamefish in the waters of Banana River is sure to be a memorable experience, leaving anglers hooked on the thrill of chasing these iconic species year after year.
