Another popular species to target while flats fishing in Mount Pleasant is the spotted seatrout, also known as speckled trout. These beautiful fish are commonly found in the shallows, particularly around oyster beds, grass flats, and tidal creeks. Speckled trout are known for their voracious appetites, making them susceptible to a variety of baits and lures, including live shrimp, mullet, and artificial soft plastics. Anglers enjoy the challenge of enticing these cunning predators and savoring the exhilarating fights they put up once hooked. Whether casting from a skiff or wading through the shallows, targeting speckled trout in the flats of Mount Pleasant provides anglers with an unforgettable fishing experience.

In addition to redfish and speckled trout, flats fishing in Mount Pleasant also offers opportunities to target other sought-after species such as flounder. These flat-bodied ambush predators are masters of camouflage, blending seamlessly into their sandy or muddy surroundings. Anglers often find success targeting flounder around structure like docks, bridges, and rocky outcrops, where these cunning fish lie in wait for passing prey. Using live bait such as mud minnows or artificial lures like bucktail jigs, anglers can tempt flounder to strike with a subtle twitch or jigging motion. Flounder are not only prized for their challenging fight but also for their delectable flavor, making them a favorite target for flats fishing enthusiasts in Mount Pleasant.

What are the most popular months to go flats fishing in Mount Pleasant?

As the temperatures begin to cool in fall, flats fishing in Mount Pleasant enters another productive season. This time of year brings a transition in fish behavior as they prepare for the winter months ahead. Redfish and speckled trout continue to be plentiful targets, feeding voraciously to build up energy reserves for the coming colder temperatures. Flounder also become more active as they move into shallower waters in search of prey. One popular method is sight fishing, which involves scanning the flats for signs of fish such as wakes, tailing, or shadows, then carefully presenting baits or lures to entice a strike. Sight fishing requires patience, keen observation, and precise casting to effectively target species like redfish and speckled trout as they cruise the shallows in search of prey. Anglers often employ light tackle setups and stealthy approaches to maximize their chances of success when sight fishing in Mount Pleasant.

Another common technique for flats fishing in Mount Pleasant is drift fishing, particularly effective when targeting expansive flats or grassy areas where fish are scattered across a wide area. Anglers drift with the current or wind, casting baits or lures ahead of the boat and allowing them to drift naturally with the water flow. This method allows anglers to cover a large area efficiently while presenting their offerings in a natural manner to entice strikes from various species. For anglers seeking a more hands-on approach, wade fishing is a popular option for flats fishing in Mount Pleasant. Wading allows anglers to access shallow areas that may be inaccessible by boat and provides a stealthy advantage when targeting wary fish in shallow water. Anglers can quietly stalk their prey, casting baits or lures directly to feeding fish or into strategic ambush points along the shoreline. Wading also allows for greater mobility and flexibility in exploring different areas of the flats, making it a versatile technique for targeting a variety of species in Mount Pleasant's shallow waters.

Captain Carlo was awesome! He took our family of four out for my kids’ first time fishing and we had a fantastic time! He was patient with our two young kids (6 & 4), did a great job teaching all of us, and showing us the sights around the Charleston harbor. Would not hesitate for a second go book with him again!

Trip: Inshore Fishing on our New Boat!

Captain Matt was a great guide. He had a very clean boat and was willing to teach some of us inexperienced fishers. He was courteous and friendly throughout the trip. The boat ride allowed us to see other parts of South Carolina we would not see otherwise. He was kind enough to rescheduled us when our original date was going to have terrible weather. Captain Matt also made sure we caught fish during our fishing trip. He tried different ways of fishing to catch them given the weather. We were able to catch enough fish to then head to Water's Edge where they cooked our fish for us for dinner. He helped us find restaurants nearby where we could do this. Overall, a wonderful experience with Captain Matt. We highly recommend booking with him.

Adam was early and ready to go at 6:30am. We had a tough day with clouds and wind but made the most of it. He was very helpful with providing tips and tricks to improve my casting in a respectful way. He taught me a lot about the redfish habitat and their mannerisms. Coming from Canada, I had never salt water fly fished before, but Adam was welcoming and showed me the ropes. Would definitely gonaga

My buddy and I had an epic time with Ryan. Ryan's super dialed in and knows every nook and cranny of the lowcountry like the back of his hand. He put us on some really nice reds and had some helpful tips to improve my fly cast. Can't recommend highly enough and can't wait to get back out there. Also his Maverick skiff is sick. Also wore some trout out before rushing back to our wedding! – Jonathan with Captain Experiences
