Unlimited evening hog hunts, over 8000 acres accessible to hunt in the Garwood/El Campo TX area. Uses drones with thermal cameras to find hogs when stalking around. Pigs are primarily a nocturnal animal especially in the hot summer months, due to being very susceptible to sunburn and lacking sweat glads to cool themselves. This makes hunting pigs with the aid of thermal a very effective means, especially in open areas such as crop/hay fields. This method usually leads to older and bigger pigs being taken off the area. Is booking a hunting guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a hunting guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced hunting guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is outside every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your backyard, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What is fishing in Garwood all about?

Fishing in Garwood, TX, provides a rewarding experience for those looking to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and diverse fish populations of the area. Garwood is situated near several excellent fishing spots, including the nearby Colorado River and various local ponds and reservoirs. The Colorado River, in particular, is a popular destination for anglers seeking to catch a variety of species such as bass, catfish, and crappie. The river’s flowing waters and natural features offer ample opportunities for different fishing techniques, from casting lures to using live bait.

Local ponds and smaller reservoirs around Garwood also offer productive fishing experiences. These smaller bodies of water are often stocked with species like bluegill and channel catfish, making them ideal for a relaxed fishing day. Many of these ponds are easily accessible and provide a great option for families or those new to fishing. The calm and scenic settings of these ponds add to the overall enjoyment of the fishing experience.

Garwood’s fishing scene is complemented by the friendly local community and available resources. Local bait shops and fishing guides can offer valuable tips and information about the best times and techniques for fishing in the area. Whether you prefer the dynamic environment of the Colorado River or the tranquility of a smaller pond, Garwood provides a range of fishing opportunities that cater to different preferences and skill levels.

What are the most popular months to go fishing in Garwood?

Fishing in Garwood, TX, offers a variety of experiences throughout the year, with each season bringing its own set of conditions and opportunities. Spring is a particularly favorable time for fishing in the area. As temperatures rise, fish become more active, and species such as bass and crappie move closer to the shallows for spawning. This makes spring an excellent season for casting lures or using live bait to target these fish, with the warmer water temperatures stimulating increased feeding activity.

Summer in Garwood can be warmer, which affects fishing conditions. During the hot months, fish often seek out cooler, deeper waters, making early mornings and late evenings the best times for fishing. Species like catfish and bass can still be caught, but anglers may need to adjust their techniques, such as using deeper presentations or targeting shaded areas. The long daylight hours provide ample opportunity to enjoy a day on the water, despite the heat.

As autumn arrives, the cooling temperatures can make for some great fishing conditions. Fish like bass and crappie become more active again as they feed more aggressively to prepare for the winter months. Fall is also a good time to fish in the Colorado River and local ponds, as the changing weather can lead to more predictable fish behavior. Winter fishing in Garwood tends to be quieter, but dedicated anglers may still find success with species like bass and catfish that remain active in cooler waters.

What types of fishing are popular in Garwood?

Fishing in Garwood, TX, offers a variety of techniques and methods suited to the area's diverse waters and fish species. One popular method is bass fishing, particularly in the nearby Colorado River and local reservoirs. Anglers often use lures such as plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits to target bass. The river’s structure, including rocks and submerged logs, provides ideal habitats for bass, making it a great location for both casting and retrieving techniques. Fishing during the spring and fall can be particularly productive when bass are more active and closer to the shore.

Catfish fishing is another favorite in Garwood, with local ponds and the Colorado River offering good opportunities for catching species like channel catfish and blue catfish. Techniques such as bottom fishing with live bait or prepared baits are commonly used. Many anglers find that fishing during the early morning or late evening can be especially effective, as catfish are more active in the cooler parts of the day. Night fishing is also a popular option, providing a chance to catch catfish when they are most active.

Crappie fishing is also well-suited to the Garwood area, with both local ponds and the Colorado River offering productive spots. Anglers typically use small jigs or live minnows to attract crappie, focusing on areas with submerged structures like brush piles or fallen trees. Techniques such as vertical jigging or casting near these structures can yield good results. The seasonal patterns of crappie fishing often peak in the spring and fall, when these fish are more likely to be found near the shore and actively feeding.

What species are popular for fishing in Garwood?

Fishing in Garwood, TX, provides anglers with the opportunity to catch a variety of fish species. One of the most sought-after species is the largemouth bass. Found in the nearby Colorado River and local ponds, largemouth bass are known for their aggressive strikes and challenging fight. Anglers often target these bass using a variety of lures, including plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. The bass fishing is typically productive in the spring and fall when these fish are more active and closer to the shoreline.

Catfish are another prominent species in the Garwood area. Local ponds and the Colorado River offer ample opportunities for catching channel catfish and blue catfish. Using live bait such as worms or shad, and employing bottom fishing techniques, can be particularly effective. Night fishing can also yield good results, as catfish are often more active during the cooler evening hours.
