What’s biting
- Surf / Beach: Pompano run in full swing (also whiting, some drum). Spanish mackerel are showing up along the beach; king mackerel will be more common as the month progresses.
- Pier: Spanish mackerel and early kings near mid-to-end of the pier; night fishing around lights can produce.
- Inshore / Bays / Flats: Big spotted trout and redfish are active on the flats and around grass edges; flounder and slot reds in some areas.
- Nearshore / Reefs & Wrecks: Vermilion (vermilion) snapper, amberjack, grouper and a steady reef/wreck bite. Mangrove snapper and scamp show on structure.
- Offshore / Deep-water: When weather permits, bottom fishing and deep drops are producing tilefish and solid bottom action. Trolling lanes are starting to produce kings in places.
Baits, tackle & techniques
- Surf: Bottom rigs with fresh shrimp or sand fleas for pompano/whiting; small jigs or gotcha plugs for Spanish.
- Pier: Cut bait for bottom species; live bait for kings and bigger pelagics.
- Inshore: Live shrimp, soft plastics, or topwater/traction plugs around bait pods and grass edges for trout and reds.
- Nearshore/Offshore: Sabiki rigs for tink
Spanish mackerel have been and still are the easy fun target. Trout and redfish are still getting better and better. Light tackle bottom fishing has produced nice catches of vermillion snapper along with some big red grouper and a variety of other keeper fish like lane snapper, scamp grouper, and trigger fish.
Cobia are finally worth taking a longer trip to go look for along the beaches in 20-40 feet of water. It only takes one 30-50 lb fish to make the trip a success!

This is from a 6 hour the other day we caught a bunch of mahis, and then I will send a group of pics from today we had a mixed bag of snappers and catch and release amberjacks.

If you want to have a great time and catch lots of fish, look no further!! This was such a fun experience for our family of 4. Captain Heath was the best guide ever!! We caught lots of fish and even got a chance to do a little snorkeling. We had the best time and will definitely be booking with him again asap!
Captain David was really friendly and had the knowledge it took to catch fish. He took extra time to show/teach 9 year old grandson how to catch 4 different species of saltwater fish. Thanks again captain.
Had an amazing day with Jordan, he was great with my older kids and we caught a lot of fish! He helped filet our catch of the day which was so delicious. We would hire Jordan again when we return to fish in Destin!
Brought my kids on the trip. Craig and crew were very accommodating and assisted family so I could also catch fish. Very friendly and highly recommend if bringing a family with mixed age group. Caught many snapper and get a few larger fish, grouper, Bonita, amber jack.
I will be looking up Craig for my next fishing trip in Destin.
We had a great experience with CPT. Kyle, he kept us on the fish. Ben, his deck hand was amazing and helped out tremendously. Definitely recommend this crew and boat. My family and I had a blast.
Captain Tim was awesome. We did 4 hrs with 3 kids. We were all beginners. He was a good teacher and very patient. Will definitely charter with him again!
