Well it's the end of September and fishing has been outstanding. There is a variety of species still being caught offshore. Snappers, triggerfish, Mackeral, and Mahi are still actively chasing baits. Well it's the end of September and fishing has been outstanding. There is a variety of species still being caught offshore. Snappers, triggerfish, Mackeral, and Mahi are still actively chasing baits. Stopping to sabiki for live sardines and cigar minnows has been effective for targeting those offshore species. We can expect as the waters continue to cool down to see a slower bite as those big fish move further out. Therefore, bouncing around from spot to spot seems to be the key to pick up those big ones still lurking around.
Inshore, the mangrove snapper and sharks are still plentiful on the bridges in the bays and any structure you can find. The big bull reds are starting to push inshore and we look forward to targeting those big schools as we progress into October and November.
There is still plenty of fish to be caught so don't put up those rods yet and let's get out there for some great fall saltwater action.

Inshore- Redfish bite is picking up tremendously catching them on live bait near the Destin Pass area and deep water docks. Mangrove snapper's have been an easy target along the Destin jetties and bridges. Spanish mackerel and blue fish are still in the bay best method trolling for them.
Gulf- the main target species all summer are red snappers, season is open till the end of July 31. Destin is known for the red snapper season along with red snappers we are catching bigger mangrove snapper's, Key West porgies chocolate porgies and vermilion snapper's along with King Mackeral trolling around bait balls
Bowfishing- this is my favorite time of the year to Bowfish lots of activity at night on the flats, plenty of fish and rays to shoot out

The past month has been absolutely on fire. Finding live bait such as cigar minnows and scaled sardines, along with squirrel fish have been the keys to getting limits. Dropping a Carolina rig with 30-50 lbs leader and 3-6 oz weights depending on the current has been the key to success. Can't find the live bait schools, no worries chum up the water real good and drop frozen cigar minnows and you should still pick up a few. If snapper is not in play, no need to worry, schools of Mahi have been swarming the deeper wrecks and you always have a chance to pull in a nice king Mackeral or some skip jacks on the troll. Amberjack season is opening up August 1st so get those poppers and plugs ready and hold on when those big AJ's start busting them.

Water conditions are the best they've been in 4 months! Jacks n reds are schooling up. Trout bite is good. Things are lining up for one of my favorite time's to catch fish.
