trip description for Clearwater Inshore Chase in Clearwater

This trip is for experienced anglers who want to master inshore fishing techniques and have a shot at the famous "inshore slam" (snook, redfish, trout) or to fill the cooler with fish to eat. Target Redfish, Snook, Trout, Grunts, Mackerel, Sheepshead, Mangrove Snapper, and Grouper. Captain Jason spends all his free time on the water learning fish habits and movements so you can go straight to the fish on the day of your trip. If you have a goal in mind for the day, Captain Jason is more than happy to try and chase down your next trophy, but he is also privy to which species are bitting best, and can help set expectations for you at the dock by providing expert advice on what tactics and species will be best to target that day. You'll be fishing from Captain Jason's 22' Pathfinder powered by a 200HP Yamaha ProV. With the ability to glide through 12 inches of shallow water or head 9 miles offshore, the world is your oyster when you head out, as Captain Jason is able to target fish far off the beaten path. It comfortably fits 4 passengers plus the captain. Its most notable feature is the 10 foot custom scouting tower, which gives Captain Jason the advantage to scout fish from over 40 feet away! This fishing machine comes rigged with a 9" Garmin navigation system, 24V Minnkota iPilot trolling motor, and 2 live wells. And there is dry space to store your personal belongings and a cooler on board to keep your food and drinks cold for the day! All of Captain Jason's trips depart from Wet Lines Bait & Tackle on Seminole Street in Clearwater. You will meet him there where he'll have the boat in the water, loaded with all necessary bait, tackle, and fishing licenses for an epic day of fishing. He will have a cooler filled with ice to keep all of your food and drinks cold. If you plan on keeping your catch, the captain will fillet and bag it for you as well. Captain Jason recommends you bring any food and drink (especially water!) you would like to enjoy on your fishing adventure. Bring what you need to be comfortable outdoors for the length of your trip. Basic items to consider bringing based upon season and weather are sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, rain jacket, windbreaker, sweatshirt, etc. Captain Jason will also be in touch with you the day before your charter to make sure you are properly prepared for your saltwater adventure! trip description for Tampa Bay Inshore/Nearshore Classic in Tampa

Head out for an awesome fishing adventure around Holmes Beach, FL with Captain Joe! On this trip, you'll double up and chase classic inshore species such as Redfish, Black Drum, Mangrove Snapper, Snook, and Spotted Trout, then head a little further out to go after gamefish like Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, and Jack Crevalle. The shallow grass flats in this are full of crabs, shrimp, and baitfish which in turn attract the big gamefish, so you'll have no shortage of opportunities for that personal best! You'll be fishing from the deck of Captain Joe's 23' Ranger bay boat, an ideal vessel for fishing these waters. Fishing the shallow flats requires patience and attention to detail. Fish are spooky in water that is only a couple of feet deep. The beauty of Captain Joe's bay boat is that it has a shallow enough draft to get you good shots up on the flats and in the back bays and inlets, while also having enough room and stability to haul it further out on a nice day! All of Captain Joe' trips include top-tier fishing gear, live bait, licenses, and fish cleaning at end of the trip. There is plenty of room in the cooler as well for your favorite snacks and drinks if you'd like to bring them along as well. Of course, we always recommend that you bring sunscreen, proper clothing, and a pair of sunglasses as well! Read More

What is sheepshead in Clearwaterall about?

In Clearwater, Florida, anglers have the opportunity to target sheepshead, a prized species known for its delectable white flesh and challenging fight. Sheepshead are commonly found in the area's nearshore waters, particularly around structures such as docks, piers, and bridge pilings. These fish have a distinctive appearance, with vertical black stripes along their silver bodies and prominent teeth adapted for crushing shellfish and crustaceans.

One effective technique for sheepshead fishing in Clearwater is bottom fishing near structure. Sheepshead are often found congregating around pilings, rocks, and other submerged objects, where they feed on barnacles, crabs, and small mollusks. Anglers can target sheepshead by presenting small hooks baited with pieces of shrimp, fiddler crabs, or barnacles near these structures. Patience and finesse are crucial when sheepshead fishing, as these fish are known for their cautious feeding behavior and ability to steal bait without getting hooked.

Another popular method for sheepshead fishing in Clearwater is jigging with small, lightweight jigs or bucktail jigs. Anglers can cast these jigs near structure and jig them up and down to imitate the movements of prey. This technique can be particularly effective when targeting sheepshead around bridge pilings or rocky areas. Successful sheepshead fishing in Clearwater requires anglers to be observant and adapt their tactics to the ever-changing conditions of the coastal waters. Whether bottom fishing or jigging, targeting sheepshead offers anglers an exciting challenge and the chance to enjoy some of the Gulf's finest seafood.

What are the most popular months to fish for sheepshead in Clearwater?

In Clearwater, Florida, sheepshead seasons provide anglers with specific times to target these prized fish in the nearshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico. While sheepshead can be found in Clearwater's coastal waters year-round, their activity levels and availability may vary depending on the season. Typically, sheepshead seasons align with their spawning and feeding patterns, which can fluctuate throughout the year.

The sheepshead season in Clearwater often peaks during the cooler months, particularly from late fall through early spring. During this time, sheepshead migrate into shallower waters near structures such as docks, piers, and bridge pilings, where they gather to spawn and feed on crustaceans and mollusks. Anglers can take advantage of this seasonal movement to target sheepshead using a variety of techniques, including bottom fishing with bait or jigging near structure.

While sheepshead fishing may slow down during the warmer months, these fish can still be targeted in Clearwater's nearshore waters with the right tactics and equipment. During the summer months, sheepshead may move to deeper waters or seek shelter in shaded areas to avoid the heat. Anglers can continue to target sheepshead using similar techniques, adjusting their tactics to match the fish's behavior and feeding habits. Overall, while sheepshead seasons in Clearwater may vary depending on environmental factors, anglers can enjoy opportunities to target these prized fish throughout the year with proper planning and preparation.

We had an absolutely amazing time with Captain George! We had several other fishermen passing through that were going on about how it was a “tough day” but not with Captain George!! He put us right on the fish! He was always aware of his surroundings, watching the schools of bait fish, and making sure we were in the most optimal spot. He was very knowledgeable about all of the species we caught throughout the day. We were having such a blast that we added an extra hour to onto our trip, which is when he put us on to the BIGGEST Spanish Mackerel I’ve ever seen!! Just to top it off, he was also very kind and caring. He never lost patience with me when he kept having to cast my pole into difficult spots, and he made sure to remind us to drink plenty of water and reapply sunscreen. At the end of the trip, as he was cleaning our fish, I began to overheat and he knew EXACTLY what to do. He stayed calm, let us stay for a while as I regained my strength, and even checked on me later on in the day. What an amazing experience, captain, and day!! 10/10! We will be fishing with Captain George when we are back this way, and will be referring all of our friends and family!
