It takes around 15 minutes to reach the ocean from Captain Maurice's dock and most of the fish you'll catch are within two miles offshore. Miami's warm Gulf Stream waters produce fish all year round, including Sailfish, Wahoo, Dolphin, Kingfish, Tuna, Amberjack, Barracuda and Sharks. Miami is unique because you don't have to commit to a full day adventure to chase after these big pelagic species, and though you may have better chances at bigger fish on longer adventures, the possibility (for big fish) is always there on the 4 hour as well! Captain Maurice will provide all the necessary gear for your adventure! All he recommends you bring are your favorite snacks and drinks, and your sun protection. He'll take care of the rest. So if all else fails, which is rarely the case, Captain Christopher will make sure you get back to the dock with a cooler full of fish! Captain Christophers' brand new Dusky Center Console is 29 feet from propellor to bow. The whole front of the boat is a padded lounge area, making this charter great for families and avid fishermen alike! You and Captain Chris can try and go out and catch the bait yourselves but it is also available for purchase. Captain Chris likes to tell his clients: "If time is of the essence, rather than burn time messing around catching bait, there are plenty of guys selling bait as we leave the dock and the 20-40$ is often well-spent cash head straight out to the bigger fish." But like everything else with Captain Chris, the decision is up to you! Read More

What is red snapper fishing in Fort Lauderdale all about?

In Fort Lauderdale, red snapper is a highly prized species among anglers for its excellent taste and challenging fights. These vibrant red-colored fish are abundant in the offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean, particularly around reefs, wrecks, and other underwater structures. Red snapper can be found at depths ranging from around 60 to 300 feet, making them accessible to anglers venturing offshore from Fort Lauderdale.

Anglers targeting red snapper in Fort Lauderdale often utilize bottom fishing techniques, anchoring near reefs or wrecks where these fish congregate. Using heavy-duty tackle and rigs baited with cut squid, shrimp, or small baitfish, anglers drop their lines to the ocean floor and wait for the telltale bite of these bottom-dwelling fish. Red snapper are known for their strong fighting ability, requiring anglers to employ skill and patience to successfully reel them in.

Furthermore, Fort Lauderdale's warm climate and favorable offshore conditions make it an ideal destination for anglers seeking to catch red snapper year-round. While these fish can be found in good numbers throughout the year, anglers may encounter peak seasons during the spring and fall months when water temperatures are optimal, and fish activity is high. With its abundance of red snapper and diverse offshore habitats, Fort Lauderdale offers anglers ample opportunities for successful fishing trips and memorable catches along Florida's Atlantic coast.

What are the most popular months to fish for red snapper fishing in Fort Lauderdale?

In Fort Lauderdale, the red snapper season is highly anticipated among anglers due to the abundance of these prized fish in the offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Typically, the red snapper season in Fort Lauderdale is regulated by federal authorities, with specific dates announced each year to ensure sustainable fishing practices. The season usually spans a few months during the summer, allowing anglers ample opportunity to target red snapper during this time.

The red snapper season in Fort Lauderdale typically coincides with warmer months when water temperatures are ideal for these fish to be active and abundant. Spring and summer are prime times for red snapper fishing in Fort Lauderdale, with the season often opening in late spring or early summer and extending into the summer months. During this period, anglers can expect increased red snapper activity and may have better success rates compared to other times of the year.

Additionally, Fort Lauderdale's red snapper season may vary slightly from year to year, depending on factors such as stock assessments and regulatory decisions. Anglers should stay informed about the latest regulations and announcements from authorities to ensure compliance with fishing regulations and to make the most of the red snapper season in Fort Lauderdale. With its regulated season and abundant fish population, Fort Lauderdale offers anglers exciting opportunities for successful red snapper fishing adventures along Florida's Atlantic coast.

What techniques are popular for catching red snapper in Fort Lauderdale?

In Fort Lauderdale, anglers employ various effective techniques to target red snapper in the offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean. One common method for catching red snapper is bottom fishing near reefs, wrecks, or other underwater structures where these fish congregate. Anglers typically anchor their boats and use heavy-duty tackle with rigs baited with cut squid, shrimp, or small baitfish. By dropping their lines to the ocean floor and presenting their baits near the structure, anglers can entice strikes from red snapper as they forage for food.

Another successful technique for red snapper fishing in Fort Lauderdale is drift fishing over offshore reefs or ledges. Anglers drift with the current while presenting baits such as squid strips, cut bait, or live baitfish at various depths to entice strikes from red snapper. Drift fishing allows anglers to cover a larger area and locate active fish, particularly when targeting larger specimens or in areas with scattered structure. Anglers may use depth finders or fish finders to locate promising spots and adjust their drift accordingly to maximize their chances of success.

Furthermore, anglers in Fort Lauderdale often employ vertical jigging techniques to target red snapper, particularly in deeper waters. Vertical jigging involves dropping metal jigs or weighted rigs to the ocean floor and jigging them up and down to mimic the movements of injured baitfish. Red snapper are known to be attracted to the erratic action of jigs and may strike aggressively when presented with this enticing lure. Vertical jigging allows anglers to cover a wide range of depths quickly, making it an effective technique for targeting red snapper in varying offshore environments.

What other species are popular in Fort Lauderdale?

Aside from red snapper, Fort Lauderdale offers anglers a diverse range of fish species to target in its offshore waters. One popular catch among anglers is the mahi-mahi, also known as dolphin or dorado. Mahi-mahi are prized for their vibrant colors, acrobatic leaps, and delicious taste. These fish can be found in the offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean, where they roam in schools around floating debris, weed lines, and offshore structures. Anglers targeting mahi-mahi often use trolling techniques with rigged ballyhoo, lures, or live bait, presenting their offerings near the surface where these fish are known to feed.

Another sought-after species in Fort Lauderdale's offshore waters is the sailfish, known for its speed, agility, and challenging fights. Sailfish can be found in deep waters offshore, particularly during the winter months when they migrate south along the Florida coast. Anglers targeting sailfish often use trolling techniques with live bait such as ballyhoo or threadfin herring, as well as artificial lures like dredge teasers or skirted trolling baits, presenting their offerings at varying depths and speeds to entice strikes from these majestic predators.

Furthermore, Fort Lauderdale offers opportunities to target a variety of other offshore species, including kingfish, wahoo, tuna, grouper, and snapper, among others. Whether fishing offshore in deep waters or nearshore along reefs and wrecks, anglers can enjoy a diverse range of angling experiences in the waters of Fort Lauderdale. With its abundance of fish species and world-class fishing grounds, Fort Lauderdale remains a premier destination for anglers seeking unforgettable offshore fishing adventures along Florida's Atlantic coast.

My son and I went on a 4 hour fishing trip from Pompano Beach through the Hillsboro Beach Inlet. Captain Dave and mate Tom crewed the boat. They were both professional and very friendly. They made us feel welcome immediately and Captain Dave in particular showed interest in my son who had not been on a deep sea trip previously. They both made the utmost efforts to find us fish. They told us that the morning trip had been pretty quite but they did a lot to find fish, which they did. We ended up landing 5 fish of different species and Tom was kind enough as well as skilled enough to clean the Mahi Mahi and Black Tuna for us to take with us. I would definitely go out with them again the next time we go.

I've been out on charters many, many times mostly down the east coast but also in Cabo. I must say the trip out with captain Manny is one of the two best trips out I've ever experienced. Her out is on fish, Jordan (the mate) ensured the rods and basis were correct and ready to catch fish. This was just a half day trip but next trip I'm going full day. Wow, I highly recommend Captain Manny!!!!! The catch highlights have to include the 54" barracuda and a 7' shark (it took two of us tag teaming and over 30 minutes to bring the shark alongside the boat for measurement.

Maurice and his son took 5 of us out and despite unusual 50 degree rainy weather in Miami we absolutely crushed it. Caught some kingfish, false albacore, and-the cherry on top-a beautiful sailfish. Maurice worked tirelessly to put us on fish and even stayed out a little longer than we should have to get us more bites. He runs a very clean operation and I’ll be back for more.
