If you've been looking to do some classic Texas fishing and find a new personal best, look no further than this trip with Captain Alana! She's an expert angler and knows exactly how to put you on some big fish in the Laguna Madre, one of the best bodies of water here on the Texas coast. The Laguna is a large, shallow saltwater inlet that's protected from the tides and waves, making it a perfect environment for Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder—the three most popular inshore gamefish in the state! Captain Alana also runs trips to the Port of Brownsville where you can chase several different species while seeing Naval ships being decommissioned such as the USS Kitty Hawk. You'll also be able to chase Cobia, Mangrove Snapper, and even the occasional Texas Tarpon! No matter what species you're aiming to catch, Captain Alana will put you on 'em and make sure you have the right tackle and gear to stack fish in the cooler. Generally, you'll be fishing shrimp on popping corks, which really attract big bites. Be ready, because you never know which bite is going to be your personal record! Captain Alana runs these inshore trips from her 25' Moody bay boat, a perfect shallow-draft vessel for this kind of water. She's powered by a brand-new 250-HP Suzuki, so you'll have no problem getting out to where the fish are. She also sports PowerPole for easy maneuvering in shallow water. Alana provides everything you need for a great trip, so just bring some sunscreen, a cooler with some snacks and drinks, and your Texas saltwater fishing license and you'll be good to go! Read More

What is redfish fishing in Port Isabel all about?

Redfish, also known as red drum, are highly sought-after game fish found in the waters surrounding Port Isabel, Texas. These iconic fish are prized by anglers for their impressive size, powerful runs, and hard-fighting nature. Redfish can be found in a variety of habitats, including shallow flats, marshes, channels, and nearshore waters, making them accessible to anglers fishing from boats, kayaks, or the shoreline. Port Isabel provides excellent opportunities for anglers to target redfish throughout the year, with peak seasons often occurring during the warmer months when these fish are most active.

One effective technique for targeting redfish in Port Isabel is sight fishing in shallow waters, particularly along grassy flats and marshes. Anglers can quietly pole or paddle their boats into these shallow areas and search for cruising redfish or tailing fish, which are actively feeding on the bottom. By presenting live or artificial baits such as shrimp, mullet, or soft plastics in the path of these feeding fish, anglers can entice redfish to strike. Sight fishing for redfish requires stealth, patience, and precise casting, but the thrill of watching a redfish inhale a bait and feeling the powerful tug on the line makes it all worthwhile.

Another productive method for targeting redfish in Port Isabel is using cut bait or live bait near structure such as oyster beds, jetties, and mangrove shorelines. Redfish are opportunistic feeders and will often congregate around these areas in search of prey. Anglers can anchor their boats or fish from the shoreline and deploy baits on the bottom using Carolina rigs or free-lined rigs. With their keen sense of smell, redfish can quickly locate and devour the bait, providing anglers with exciting strikes and memorable battles. Whether sight fishing in shallow waters or bottom fishing near structure, targeting redfish in Port Isabel offers anglers an exhilarating fishing experience and the chance to reel in trophy-sized catches.

What are the most popular months to fish for redfish fishing in Port Isabel?

In Port Isabel, Texas, the seasons for targeting redfish follow a cyclical pattern influenced by various environmental factors such as water temperature, baitfish migrations, and spawning behavior. Typically, the prime seasons for redfish occur throughout much of the year, with peak periods often aligning with the warmer months when water temperatures are ideal and baitfish populations are abundant. During these times, redfish become more active and aggressive, providing anglers with ample opportunities to hook into these prized game fish.

Spring and fall are considered peak seasons for redfish fishing in Port Isabel, as these transitional periods bring changes in water temperature and baitfish movements. As temperatures warm up in spring, redfish become more active and begin to move into shallower waters, including flats, marshes, and channels, in search of food. Anglers targeting redfish during this season can expect to encounter schools of hungry fish feeding aggressively, making for exciting fishing opportunities.

During the fall months, as temperatures cool down and baitfish migrate southward, redfish continue to feed voraciously in preparation for the upcoming winter months. Anglers targeting redfish in Port Isabel during the fall season may find success using a variety of techniques, including sight fishing in shallow waters or fishing near structure such as oyster beds and jetties. With their impressive size and hard-fighting nature, redfish offer anglers a thrilling fishing experience year-round in the waters surrounding Port Isabel, adding excitement to their coastal adventures in the Gulf of Mexico.

I have fished all over the world and been a guide myself for many years and I would highly recommend the fishing experience Captain Russell provides. If you are wanting to take your family out for a great afternoon of fishing Captain Russell is who you need to book with hands down. He had us on fish early and often despite the windy conditions. My youngest, who is 7, caught his personal best on this trip. We will definitely be back to fish with Captain Russell again!

What an outstanding time that we had with Captain Mike. This was our very first time boat fishing and we had done so at the request of my son for his 17th birthday. Captain Mike was incredibly accommodating, very easy to communicate with and more importantly knowledgeable when it comes to fishing. He was incredibly patient, taught each person in our group of four how to properly cast and really made sure that we had a good time (and also made sure we caught our limit, I have no doubt he would have stayed out there all day to make it happen.) I'm new at this but I am sure this is the type of experience you hope for with this sort of activity. Book this gut y'all. I PROMISE you that you will not be disappointed. Thanks again Captain Mike for a memorable experience!!!!!

My nephew and I went out with Captain Mike on Jan 27th, 2024. Captain Mike was very approachable and personable with his introduction. He set up some rigs before we left the pier which only took a few minutes. His boat is a very comfortable and nicely setup. When we arrived at the fishing location Captain Mike was very informative on what to do and how to do it. He is very patient and informative. We set up a 5-hour trip but had our limits of Red Drum and Speckled Trout in only 3 hours of fishing time. He knew exactly where to go and what to do. When we arrived back at the pier there was a very kind gentleman waiting to clean our fish for us. He will clean them any you want them. I give Captain Mike a solid 5-star review and I will return to fish with him again in the future. THANK YOU, CAPTAIN MIKE, for a fantastic time.

During our trip, Captain Mike consistently put us on fish in multiple situations despite what I would consider fairly difficult weather conditions. He did a great job with my 12-year old son, who happily landed his first ever slot red, along with several other nice trout and redfish. We would definitely love to fish with Captain Mike again!

Jason C. with Mike K. of South Padre Island, Texas

Captain Alana was awesome! Very professional, had the boat clean and gear ready to go as soon as we got to the dock we were off. Boat was good size had plenty of room for everyone to walk around. Even took us close to the launch site to see the Space X Starship. She was constantly on the phone with other guides trying to find the best bite possible. We caught Speckled Trout, large Catfish and saw a bunch of large red drums but even hitting them in the head with the bait they wouldn't bite... Had a weather change and rockets going off in the area so may have had something to do with it. But we were the only boat that day really catching anything. I would highly recommend Captain Alana. Will decently book her for future visits to go Tarpon Fishing!!!
