What types of thermal hunting trips are common in Texas?

Invasive Species hunting is the most popular type of hunting for thermal hunting in Texas as well as predator hunting.

The most commonly sought after species for thermal hunting in Texas is hog.

How much does a Texas thermal hunting hunting trip cost?

Prices for thermal hunting in Texas can range anywhere from about $600 to $5,270, but the average price for a half day trip for thermal hunting in Texas is $1,627. The average price for a full day trip for thermal hunting in Texas is $3,294.

Is booking a hunting guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a hunting guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced hunting guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is outside every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your backyard, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for on a thermal hunting trip in Texas?

The most popular season to go on a thermal hunting trip in Texas is fall, and most hunters book their trips 55 days in advance.

We had the BEST time thermal hog hunting with Joe and Jeff from Captain Experiences. The guys were super nice and patient with us as it was our first time hunting. They gave great instruction, were encouraging, and a lot of fun to hang with. They showed up on time and gave us extra time in the end. They seemed to have a great time as well. Everyone in my group was provided a gun with a super cool thermal scope. The AR-15s were set up on a stand for us and we had lots of opportunities to aim and shoot. This was our first time hunting but it definitely will not be our last. It was SOOOO much fun! I highly recommend it!
