Hunting is done from tower blinds over feeders, driving ranch roads with high racked hunting vehicles, spot and stalk around water holes and tripods around cattle feeders for archers. Our Texas style thermal hog hunts offer hunters the chance to get out into the wild and take down UNLIMITED hogs! These hunts are typically structured as “spot and stalk” hunts that start just before sundown. Hunters and our guides will load up into buggies and travel to multiple different hunting areas where hunters will have the opportunity to scan the area with thermal and night vision devices in order to spot hogs and coyotes, as well as other non target species. We provide all of the guns, scopes, ammo, and other hunting equipment for our customers. Our experienced guides will take hunters of any skill level through our safety course so they can feel totally ready for their night time hog experience. Over the course of four hours, we take hunting vehicles to multiple wild hog hunting areas, including both low fence and hunting preserve properties. Once hogs are spotted, your Texas hunting adventure is about to get WILD! We try to stalk up less than 75 yards from our target. We often see large trophy boars, as well as sounders of large numbers of wild hogs. Your guide will safely line up the shooters, and then it is up to you to knock 'em down! Your guide will provide all the equipment needed for your hunt. We are set up to host and fully outfit large groups of up to 20 hunters! We use custom AR-STYLE RIFLES chambered in 6.8spc, 7.62x39, and .308. THERMALS, SHOOTING STICKS, SUPPRESSORS, and AMMUNITION are all included in your hunt price. We take pride in having well maintained, high quality gear. Each hunter will be outfitted with $5,000+ worth of equipment. Our rifles are decked out with Pulsar, Infiray, and AGM thermal optics that are perfect for taking down hogs! We will be fully outfitted with high definition thermal handhelds for scanning, as well. You’ll want to bring good hiking boots, weather appropriate clothing, and a small flashlight. Don’t forget a cooler if you want to take home some wild hog meat! Shot opportunities are presented in more than 98% of our thermal trips. If we don’t get you a shot, we will reschedule you for FREE. Read More

On this hunting adventure you’ll have the opportunity to shoot as many hogs as you can! With 4 exclusive bow spots, 8 comfortable sitting blinds, and strategically placed cameras throughout the property, guests can embark on an unforgettable hog hunting adventure. Additionally, lodging and meals are included in this package. You’re hunt will be private, so your group will have the entirety of the this free range property to enjoy. Clayton will equip you with all of the guns, ammo, and equipment necessary for a successful hunt. On this weekend long trip, you’ll typically enjoy 4 full hunts. For example, customers would arrive during the day friday, hunt friday evening, have a delicious dinner (probably BBQ) then continue their hunt with thermals friday night. Then saturday morning after a big breakfast you will hunt for 4 or 5 hours, enjoy a quick simple lunch and a short break then go back out to hunt saturday evening and either saturday night or sunday morning depending on your preference. The typical shot distance on these hunts is within 100 yards. All cleaning, skinning, and quartering is included in this package. Clayton and his team will provide breakfast lunch and dinner for the duration of your stay. The welcoming family house provides essential amenities, including 8 twin bunks, a well-stocked fridge, running water, and a cozy window stove for warmth. Side-by-sides are available for seamless transportation to and from the blinds, ensuring your comfort and convenience throughout your hunting experience. Guests arrive on Friday early afternoon, allowing time to immerse themselves in the serene surroundings, check their gear, site in their guns, and explore the thermal equipment before heading out for an afternoon hunt. After dark, guests are picked up about an hour or two after dark, returning to a delectable dinner waiting at the bunkhouse. The rest of the evening is at the guests' discretion, whether they choose to continue their hunt with thermal gear or unwind by the fire. With Claytons cell cams set up throughout the property and hooked up to his Cell Phone a little combination of both isn't out of the question either. Guests can unwind by the fire and if the Cell Cam gets a hit, you'll take to the atv's and chase down the hogs! Cell cams are strategically placed to alert guests when action is imminent, allowing them to maximize their hunting experience. A minimum of 4 participants is required, and it's essential to note that the bunkhouse is tailored for hunters, not luxury seekers, providing a comfortable place to rest after an exciting day. The hunting grounds feature old, mature woods that have never been clear-cut, creating a challenging and rewarding environment for hog hunting. Clayton's Hog Hunts offers an authentic, unforgettable hunting experience where guests can create lasting memories while pursuing prized hogs in the heart of Texas wilderness. Read More

trip description for Bow Hunting Hogs! in Nixon

Unlike other ranches that have a structured schedule as far as hunting times go, Robert and his team are here to help you hunt the schedule you want to hunt. But typically: Your group will get up in the morning and have a light breakfast and coffee. You will head out to the stands and get settled 30 minutes before the feeders turn on. Practice drawing back and aiming at the target area a time or two to assure there are no draw or sight obstructions. Your shooting distance typically will be between 15 and 25 yards. It is very likely that you will see both exotics and hogs coming into shooting range. Pick a target, relax, and take your shot. After you retrieve your animal, the ranch has a 4X4 available to pick it up and bring your game back to the cabin. There is an available walk-in cooler which you can use to store your game, or you can use one of the two electric hoists to start skinning it. Trip includes 2 hogs per day, a total of 4 hogs. Extra hogs can be shot at $150 per hog. Some groups like to eat lunch at the cabin, and some take the 10-minute drive and eat in town. Although challenging, in the afternoon you can walk the ranch and do some spot and stock hunting. The evening hunts will be similar to the morning hunt. Bring a good flashlight in case you take a shot with little remaining light to aid during the retrieval process. Many groups will cook dinner at the cabin, have a drink and enjoy sharing hunting stories of the day around the campfire. Read More

What types of hog hunting trips are common in Texas?

Hog hunting is the most popular type of hunting for hog in Texas as well as predator hunting, duck hunting, and invasive species hunting.

Is booking a hunting guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a hunting guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced hunting guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is outside every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your backyard, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

Excellent guide and excellent experience. We had a successful hunt. The captain experience website, however, was incorrect, it listed morning hunting as an option when this was not accurate. This Did cause some minor inconvenience with planning, travel, overnight stay, etc. that said, we would continue to use the service and same Guide for the same or similar hunts in the future.
