Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

We had a great time out with our guide Andrew. Super personable, easy to talk to, and the skill set to match anyone’s needs. He was a great instructor, willing to go the extra mile to make sure my partner and I were having fun and catching fish. Would highly recommend him for anyone in the St. Pete area looking to get out on the water.

Joe is great. My friend, and I spent 4 hours with him on Sunday morning. I have very little personal experience fishing, and was a little apprehensive. Joe was fantastic in every way. He explained the technique we would use, baited our hooks, and took us to 4 different spots. We caught a lot of fish! I had hoped to catch something we could take home and eat, and we did. A nice sized redfish that Joe cleaned and cut into filets for us. Joe “teaches you” by explaining what he’s seeing, and why we would move to different areas along the way. This made the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend booking a tour with Joe.

We went in-shore fishing. Kelly, our Caption, was AMAZING! We warned him from the beginning that we were beginners. Kelly was very patience with us and knowledgeable of the area. We caught flounder, stingrays, other species we can’t remember and even caught a catfish which topped it off for us since that’s what we catch in Ohio. We can’t forget the snags, that our girls will always remember now as catching “rock fish” as Kelly called them. Kelly also was able to take us where we were able find our first unbroken empty conch shell. We can’t say enough about our amazing experience! We highly recommend!
