Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. Flats fishing in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, offers anglers a unique opportunity to explore the rich estuarine and coastal environments of the Lowcountry. Situated along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and bordered by tidal creeks, marshes, and flats, Hilton Head Island provides a diverse habitat for a variety of fish species. One of the primary targets for flats fishermen is the redfish, also known as red drum. These powerful fish are abundant in the shallow waters around oyster beds, grass flats, and tidal creeks. Anglers often employ sight fishing techniques, using shallow-draft skiffs or flats boats to quietly maneuver through the flats while scanning for the distinctive copper-colored fish or signs of tailing activity.

Another popular species for flats fishing in Hilton Head Island is the spotted seatrout, commonly referred to as speckled trout. These fish are typically found in deeper channels adjacent to the flats, where they feed on shrimp, mullet, and small baitfish. Anglers target speckled trout using a variety of techniques, including live bait such as shrimp or finger mullet rigged under popping corks, as well as artificial lures like soft plastics and topwater plugs. Spring marks the beginning of the fishing season, characterized by warming waters and increased activity among fish populations. Captain Tim was great all through, from early communication/coordination to execution of our 4 hour charter for 4 guys. He showed us how he netted baitfish, then we set up on bull redfish. We were into them quickly and everyone in our party boated fish. Then we relocated because we wanted to try for shark and once again we got on them quickly, and again we all boated fish. Bargain plan, one good size ray was also caught. Highly recommend you try booking Captain Tim.
