What are the inshore fishing seasons in Mount Pleasant?

In Mount Pleasant, the inshore fishing seasons unfold amidst the changing rhythms of the coastal environment, offering anglers a year-round opportunity to pursue their favorite species. Spring ushers in the prime fishing season as warming temperatures trigger the migration of various fish species into the shallows. This time of year sees an increase in activity as redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and other prized gamefish become more active, providing anglers with ample opportunities to hook into some trophy catches.

As summer arrives, inshore fishing in Mount Pleasant reaches its peak. The warmer waters attract an abundance of baitfish and other prey species, drawing in larger predators to the shallows. While some species begin to migrate back out to deeper waters, others, like redfish and speckled trout, remain active in the shallows well into the season. This time of year offers a mix of opportunities, from chasing tailing redfish in the marshes to targeting speckled trout along grass flats. With fewer crowds and comfortable weather, fall provides a serene backdrop for anglers looking to reel in their next big catch in the productive waters of Mount Pleasant.

What techniques are popular for inshore fishing in Mount Pleasant?

In Mount Pleasant, anglers have a variety of effective techniques at their disposal to target the diverse range of inshore species inhabiting the area's coastal waters. One popular method is sight fishing, which involves scanning the shallow flats and marshy shorelines for signs of feeding fish. Armed with polarized sunglasses and a keen eye, anglers can spot redfish tailing in the grass or speckled trout cruising along the flats, presenting their bait or lure with precision for a thrilling hookup.

Another productive technique in Mount Pleasant's inshore waters is live bait fishing, which involves using live shrimp, mullet, or menhaden to entice strikes from a variety of species. Whether freelining a live shrimp along a grass flat or suspending a live mullet under a popping cork in a tidal creek, live bait fishing can be highly effective for targeting redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. Anglers can also use cut bait, such as mullet or squid, to target bottom-dwelling species like black drum and sheepshead around structure-rich areas like jetties and bridge pilings.

For anglers seeking a more active approach, artificial lure fishing is a popular technique in Mount Pleasant's inshore waters. Whether casting soft plastic swimbaits, topwater plugs, or jigging spoons, anglers can target a variety of species, including redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. Experimenting with different lure colors, sizes, and retrieves allows anglers to adapt to changing conditions and the preferences of the targeted fish, adding an element of excitement and versatility to their fishing experience.

Carlo is the man. Great communication as we approached our trip as weather was a factor. Made it easy for a bunch of us who had limited fishing experience. Would book with him again in a heartbeat.

    Trip: Besting Charleston's Beasts

Captain Matt was a great guide. He had a very clean boat and was willing to teach some of us inexperienced fishers. He was courteous and friendly throughout the trip. The boat ride allowed us to see other parts of South Carolina we would not see otherwise. He was kind enough to rescheduled us when our original date was going to have terrible weather. Captain Matt also made sure we caught fish during our fishing trip. He tried different ways of fishing to catch them given the weather. We were able to catch enough fish to then head to Water's Edge where they cooked our fish for us for dinner. He helped us find restaurants nearby where we could do this. Overall, a wonderful experience with Captain Matt. We highly recommend booking with him.
