Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. Whether fishing from shore, a pier, or a boat, anglers in Galveston can enjoy memorable encounters with jack crevalle against the backdrop of the area's scenic coastal waters.

What are the most popular months to fish for jack crevalle in Galveston?

In Galveston, jack crevalle can be found in the waters year-round, making them a consistent target for anglers throughout the seasons. While they may be present in the area at any time, certain seasons may offer more favorable conditions for targeting these powerful fish. Spring and summer are typically considered prime seasons for jack crevalle fishing in Galveston, as warmer water temperatures stimulate increased activity and feeding behavior among these fish. During these months, anglers can expect to encounter larger numbers of jack crevalle and have more consistent success in catching them.

Fall can also be a productive season for targeting jack crevalle in Galveston. As water temperatures gradually cool, jack crevalle may become more active and aggressive in their feeding habits. Anglers can find these fish patrolling nearshore waters, bays, and estuaries, where they prey on baitfish and other forage. While the cooler temperatures may slow down the metabolism of jack crevalle compared to the warmer months, they can still provide exciting fishing opportunities for anglers willing to seek them out.

Even during the winter months, jack crevalle can still be caught in Galveston's waters, although they may be less active and less abundant compared to other times of the year. Anglers targeting jack crevalle during the winter should focus their efforts on areas with warmer water temperatures, such as deeper channels, nearshore structures, or areas with strong currents. By adapting their strategies to the prevailing conditions and staying patient, anglers in Galveston can continue to enjoy encounters with jack crevalle throughout the year.

What techniques are popular for catching jack crevalle in Galveston?

Fishing for jack crevalle in Galveston requires a combination of skill, patience, and the right techniques to successfully land these powerful fish. One effective technique for targeting jack crevalle is casting with artificial lures. Anglers can use a variety of lures such as spoons, jigs, or topwater plugs to mimic the movements of baitfish and entice strikes from jack crevalle. When casting with lures, it's important to cover a lot of water and vary the retrieve speed to find what triggers a response from the fish.

Live bait fishing is another productive technique for targeting jack crevalle in Galveston. Anglers can use live bait such as mullet, pinfish, or shrimp to attract the attention of these voracious predators. Fishing with live bait can be particularly effective when targeting jack crevalle near structure-rich areas such as jetties, bridges, or submerged reefs, where these fish often congregate. Anglers can present live bait using techniques such as free-lining or fishing under a popping cork rig to increase visibility and attract strikes.

Trolling is also a popular technique for targeting jack crevalle in Galveston, especially when fishing in deeper waters or covering large areas. Anglers can troll with artificial lures or rigged baitfish behind a boat to entice strikes from jack crevalle cruising near the surface or along underwater structure. When trolling, it's important to vary the speed and depth of the presentation to find where the fish are feeding. By employing a combination of casting with lures, live bait fishing, and trolling, anglers in Galveston can increase their chances of success when targeting these powerful and hard-fighting fish.

One popular species among anglers is speckled trout, also known as spotted seatrout. These fish are abundant in the area's bays, estuaries, and marshes, where they can be targeted using techniques such as drift fishing, casting with artificial lures, or live bait fishing with shrimp or mullet. Speckled trout are prized for their acrobatic leaps and delicious flesh, making them a favorite among anglers of all skill levels.

Captain Mike was incredible! I booked this fishing trip for my husband and brother in law as a surprise for Father’s Day and he was very patient and thorough with me. (I knew nothing about fishing). He is also very kind and his fishing skills are top tier! And best of all he definitely helped them catch some pretty nice size fish! We will definitely be booking Captain Mike again.

Storm the day before put the bite off, but we caught lots of Catfish, several near 5 lbs, so my grandson enjoyed that. Capt Mike worked for his money, constantly repositioning the boat to our advantage & taking us out to try for Sharks upon our request. He kept the language clean, which, knowing alot of Sailors, was a bonus...He also made sure my grandson had an approved life vest & hooked and passed a couple of the bigger fish to him. Overall, I'd charter with him again for sure. A+++

Our trips last Thursday and Friday were with Dan and Saul (both boats were Dan’s). I think both guys tried. Sometimes the fish bite and sometimes they don’t. That’s why they call it fishing and not catching. This said, I was unpleasantly surprised that most of both days we spent fishing for bait fish. And unless you tell me differently this was not in the plan. Given our travel cost the boat costs, I was and remain disappointed. Paul
