Captain Mike: South Padre Fishing Report. The bay fishing is on right now and should only get better throughout the next month. The shrimp and baitfish are migrating into our bay system and the fish are actively hunting them. The speckled trout and redfish are on the move looking for easy meals. This is in my opinion one of the best times of the year to target speckled trout with artificial baits and live baits. Typically the high spring winds will start to die off towards the end of May and early June. This weather combined with the influx of the spring bait migration leads to some good fishing. It's a great time to introduce the kids to some fishing action. Schools of black drum should also magically show up soon. My schedule is filling up for summer so you may want to pick some dates.

This spring fishing has started off to a good start. Water temperatures range from the high 50s to the low 70s depending on the weather week to week. Once water temperatures stabilize the bite should be more consistent. Spanish mackerel have been found inshore and outside of the pass; easily targeted on a four hour trip trolling and using live bait, incoming tides seem to be producing greater numbers of Spanish mackerel. Offshore, triggerfish have been very active. Several keeper size triggerfish have been caught. The Vermilion snapper bite has began to become very consistent, and their table fair is unmatched; limiting out has been a common trend on 6-8hr charters. Several Gag grouper have been caught and safely released. The Gulf is coming alive and this season is shaping up to be one for the books.

Are you looking to find out what’s biting right now in Destin, Florida? November offers excellent inshore fishing opportunities. During this time of year, you can expect to catch a variety of fish species, including:
1 Redfish (Red Drum) - Redfish are often abundant in the inshore waters of Destin
during October. They can be found near oyster beds, grassy flats, and in the passes.
2 Speckled Trout (Spotted Sea Trout) - Speckled trout are a popular target for inshore anglers in Destin. They tend to be active during the fall and can be found around grassy areas, channels, and structure.
3 Flounder - Flounder are another common catch in the inshore waters of Destin during October. They are often found around sandy bottoms, ledges, and near the mouths of rivers.
4 Snook - While not as common as some other species, snook can be found in the inshore waters of Florida, including Destin. They prefer warmer waters and can be found near mangroves and inlets.
5 Black Drum - Black drum are often found in the same areas as redfish and can be caught using similar techniques. They are more active in cooler water temperatures.
6 Sheepshead - Sheepshead are often caught around structure like docks, pilings, and jetties. They have strong teeth and are known for their bait-stealing antics.
7 Spanish Mackerel - While Spanish mackerel are more commonly associated with nearshore and offshore fishing, you may encounter them in the inshore waters of Destin, especially around schools of baitfish.
8 Jack Crevalle - These powerful and hard-fighting fish are often encountered in the inshore waters

We had such an amazing time! We had a townhome on the beach, and Fernando came to us! They really worked super hard to make sure we caught a shark, & all felt included!

5 Stars! Capt Katie and her deck hand Nick (amazing young man) gave us a wonderful day of fishing on the Gulf. Her hospitality, knowledge of fishing in the Gulf and patient instruction made for a very enjoyable and interesting trip. We trolled for mackerel and did some bottom fishing for shark, which unexpectedly got us a red snapper plus a good size shark. For me it was a welcome return to nearshore fishing and for my son, a new experience. I highly recommend a trip with Capt Katie. She is keeping the spirit of Destin, the luckiest fishing village in the world, alive and well. You will not be disappointed.

We did not go with Captain Robert. We went with Captain Tim. Captain Robert called me the day before the trip to confirm the fishing trip and our plan for the day. We were to meet at the dock at 6:00. The day of the trip, Captain Robert texted me and said we would leave at 7:00 due to the weather. On the way to the dock, a got a call asking were we still going on the trip. I informed them that we were on the way and I was told to be there at 7:00. When we got to the dock, we had two Captains waiting on us. We were informed that there was a mix up and we were going with Captain Tim. We had to stop and get fuel, ice and bait. We trolled near shore and hooked up with a big fish. A dolphin took our fish. My oldest son got seasick. Water was very rough. We returned my son to shore. We started trolling again. Every time we hooked up with a decent fish, dolphins got our catch. We did catch several Bennita's. Alarm on boat started going off. We checked the motor and Captain called to attempt to trouble shoot. Both motors would not start. Finally got motor started but ran with one motor. We could not go to better bottom fishing spot due to running one motor. We came in early due to one motor and alarm going off constantly. Terrible experience! Screwed up from the start.
