What is red grouper fishing in Panama City Beach all about?

Red grouper, a prized species among anglers, inhabit the offshore waters of Panama City Beach, offering exciting opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. These fish are known for their distinctive red coloration, stout bodies, and impressive fighting abilities. Red grouper can often be found near reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottoms in depths ranging from 30 to 300 feet, making them accessible to anglers fishing from both boats and charter vessels. Their preference for structure-rich habitats adds an element of challenge and excitement to the fishing experience.

Anglers targeting red grouper in Panama City Beach typically use a variety of techniques to entice strikes. Bottom fishing with live or cut bait, such as squid, mullet, or sardines, is a popular method for enticing these fish. Anglers may also employ jigging techniques using weighted lures or jigs to target red grouper near the ocean floor. Additionally, trolling with diving plugs or deep-diving lures can be effective in covering large areas of water and locating active red grouper populations.

The red grouper season in Panama City Beach typically runs year-round, providing anglers with ample opportunities to pursue these prized fish. However, peak seasons for targeting red grouper may occur in the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate and baitfish populations are abundant. During these times, red grouper are often more active and can be found in larger numbers, providing anglers with increased opportunities for successful catches. With their size, strength, and delectable flesh, red grouper offer anglers in Panama City Beach a thrilling and rewarding fishing experience in the deep waters of the Gulf Coast.

What are the most popular months to fish for red grouper in Panama City Beach?

In Panama City Beach, the red grouper season extends throughout the year, offering anglers the opportunity to target these prized fish regardless of the season. However, certain times of the year may see increased activity and more favorable conditions for red grouper fishing. Spring and fall are typically considered prime seasons for targeting red grouper in Panama City Beach, as water temperatures moderate and baitfish populations increase. During these transitional periods, red grouper are often more active and can be found congregating around reefs, wrecks, and other underwater structures in greater numbers.

Summer also offers favorable conditions for targeting red grouper in Panama City Beach, as warmer water temperatures stimulate their feeding activity. During the summer months, red grouper may move to shallower waters or remain near offshore structures where they actively feed on small baitfish and crustaceans. While red grouper may be less abundant during the winter months in Panama City Beach, they can still be caught by anglers venturing offshore or fishing in deeper waters. During colder periods, red grouper may seek out warmer waters or adjust their behavior, but they can still be found near reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottoms where they seek shelter and feed. We had a great time! Most of us had never been fishing offshore before, but we were all able to snag a few Red Snapper and Beeliner. We got our quota of Snapper in the 6 hours that we were out there. For future excursions, the one lesson I'd take away is to try to buy live bait in the morning if you have an afternoon trip. We didn't have any live bait to fish with, but still had a great time and plenty of success!

Justin was professional, once explained the basic rules,he disappeared into cabin until we landed. No access to captains helm was granted, so we couldn't see instrumentation etc. Brandon worked hard and was very pleasant. Was surprised that we had to have fished cleaned by third party. Also surprised that 4 hr trip was dock to dock. All my past trips started at start time and we were fishing until time was up. So we paid for drive to site and they gave us return trip. Actually we only fished 2 hrs. Captain worked hard to keep us on fish. They were very small, but he warned us they would be.You need to be much clearer on your web site about fishing time and fish size, also you clean your own.

Did the 4 hour morning fishing charter with Captain. I highly recommend this charter. I found out the night before that captain Jason’s son Dylan was going to be taking us out instead of Captain Jason. Dylan was so good with my 11 & 13 year old boys, we learned so much. We couldn’t go on the ocean because it was a windy rough day and we were on a smaller boat. It was only my boys and I plus Captain Dylan. Captain Dylan assured us that there were plenty of big fish to be caught in the bay. One of my boys caught a shark and the other caught some snappers and a saltwater catfish. I caught a 42lb black drum! It was a great father/sons experience.
