Anglers rig their lines with small hooks and weight to keep the bait near the bottom, where triggerfish are likely to be feeding. Patience is key when bottom fishing for triggerfish, as anglers may need to wait for these cautious feeders to take the bait before setting the hook.

Another productive technique for targeting triggerfish is using small jigs or artificial lures that mimic the movement of crustaceans or small baitfish. Anglers jig these lures near the bottom around reefs, wrecks, or other structure-rich areas where triggerfish are known to congregate. The erratic movement of the jig can attract the attention of triggerfish, enticing them to strike. Anglers may also experiment with different colors and sizes of jigs to determine what triggers the best response from these fish.

Live bait fishing can also be highly effective when targeting triggerfish in Panama City Beach. Anglers often use small pieces of cut bait or squid presented near the bottom using a Carolina rig or similar setup. Captain Nate from the beginning asked a lot of questions about us and what our hopes were. He was extremely informative about what the conditions were, fish in season, and other tid-bits regarding our trip. Heading out we encountered extremely heavy fog so it was a bit slow getting out where we needed to be. Once we got out where we needed to be it was absolutely beautiful and Captain Nate put us on a couple catches. We got Trigger, Red Snapper, a B-Liner, and some tropical looking fish.. Unfortunately we were only able to keep the B-Liner but our family thoroughly enjoyed the trip! Once we started making our way in we realized that there was a red Tide which hindered some of our fishing. I will definitely book Captain Nate again on our next trip.

Ken H. with Nathan S. of Panama City Beach, Florida
