What types of mallard hunting trips are common in Texas?

Duck hunting is the most popular type of hunting for mallard in Texas as well as goose hunting, invasive species hunting, and predator hunting.

How much does a Texas mallard hunting trip cost?

Prices for mallard in Texas can range anywhere from about $500 to $3,770, but the average price for a half day trip for mallard in Texas is $1,482. The average price for a full day trip for mallard in Texas is $3,279.

Is booking a hunting guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a hunting guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced hunting guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is outside every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your backyard, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for mallard hunting in Texas?

The most popular season for mallard hunting in Texas is winter, and most hunters book their trips 38 days in advance.

We had an epic hunt with Clayton! We got into town late and crashed at his lodge spot in the middle of town. It has everything you need (and nothing you don't) to sleep a big group and we all had a great night's sleep. We were up early and followed Clayton to his tucked away spot. We got settled in the blind and Clayton started calling em in! The season hadn't hit full swing but we managed to bag some nice birds. Clayton's calling came in clutch and his retriever brought home the goods. Super nice guy with hilarious stories for days. 10/10 hunt, can't wait to run it back! – Jonathan with Captain Experiences

I recently had the pleasure of going on a Sandhill crane hunting trip with Dawson, and I can't recommend him highly enough! From start to finish, the experience was top-notch, thanks to his exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and professionalism.Right from the initial booking, Dawson was incredibly responsive and accommodating. He took the time to answer all my questions and provided valuable insights about what to expect during the trip. This level of communication made me feel at ease and excited for the adventure ahead.Once we arrived at the hunting location, it was clear that Dawson had put a lot of thought into every aspect of the experience. The equipment was well-maintained, and the setup was efficient and organized. He clearly has a deep knowledge of the area and the best strategies for successful hunting, which added to the overall experience. What truly stood out was his professionalism throughout the trip. Dawson ensured that all safety protocols were followed and took the time to explain the importance of each step. His passion for hunting Sandhill cranes was infectious, and it was evident that he genuinely cares about his clients’ enjoyment and success.Overall, if you're looking for an unforgettable Sandhill crane hunting experience with a guide who prioritizes customer service, attention to detail, and professionalism, look no further than Dawson. Tough day on the water but was grateful for the effort Clayton put in. He scouted for days before the trip and unfortunately the birds just werent down yet, but he gave us every chance we could get for the birds that were around. Looking forward to hunting with him again in a week or two when more birds are down in central TX.
