Bag limits are generous, allowing you to hunt up to 8 ducks of any species and 20 snow geese, with a limit of 8 dark geese. For our snow goose hunts, we enhance the experience with all e-callers (electric callers), making it both enjoyable and highly successful. While we don't provide packaging of birds, we encourage you to savor some of your harvest as we donate all our birds to a local Indian community for food and use in their ceremonies. Schedule: We prefer first time guests to arrive before 6pm the first night to get settled in at the lodge and to see the grounds in preparation for the next morning hunt. Day 1 - Morning Hunt We depart for our hunting location around 8am. Brunch served mid morning. We will usually hunt until noon, of course that is dependent on reaching bag limits. Day 1 - Afternoon Hunt Hunting usually resumes around 1:30pm and we will continue to hunt until limits are reached, hunters are ready to "call it a day" or legal shooting time expires. Day 1 - Dinner & Festivities Dinner is prepared and served to all guests. If time allows and parties desire we will gather around the fire pit or football game to celebrate and tell stories of the day. Day 2 - Morning Hunt Head out for our hunting location around 8am. Any duck hunting groups less than 4 may be combined with another group if need be. A group of 4 or more will have a dedicated guide and will not be combined with another group. All duck hunters are required to wear waders. If you or a men of your group doesn’t have or can’t get waders, isn’t capable of standing in water for extended periods of time, isn’t capable of getting into or out of a layout boat, please let me know at time of booking so special arrangements can be made or options can be discussed. Please, let me know well in advance so I can plan accordingly rather than scramble to make arrangements the morning of the hunt. Later in the season this could have a significant impact on the success of your hunt. Early season hunts are typically done from shore or from boat. These are much easier hunts for children, elderly, mobility impaired people. Typically the first 4-5 weeks of the season allow us to utilize boat blinds and shore blinds. Later in the season birds get weary and avoid land and large boat blinds. This is when we utilize other methods such as layout boats, small standing blinds, and other less intrusive methods of concealing hunters. While this might be a slightly informal duck hunt, Captain Tim knows how to put you on em! Ducks on the panhandle are less consistent than in other regions of the country and thus require creative techniques to kill them. While setting up decoy spreads never hurt if you'd like to bring your own, Captain Tim prefers to do his scouting ahead of time, head up the river, and find a brushed-in spot on the bank to give him prime time passing shots as ducks fly low heading from roost to feed, and cove to cove as boaters flush them up throughout the morning. As a full-time fishing guide, he always has a pulse on duck movements since he's on the water all day every day. To that end he also finds ducks on the shoreline as well. When the ducks are there, he sets up in the water by the wildlife refuge and waits for the ducks to make the fateful mistake of flying out over the water as they cruise by. Whether it's setting up on the river or on the shoreline, Florida's panhandle holds some typical duck species like Blue and Green Winged Teal, Bluebills, Redheads, Wooducks, and Buffleheads. But also is home to a rare duck for some trophy hunters in the Black Bellied Whistling duck!
