The estuaries and saltwater flats are perfect for those who prefer the art of fly fishing or casting from a kayak, with plenty of redfish, speckled trout, and flounder lurking in the waters. For those who want to go deeper, the surrounding offshore waters offer a chance to battle bigger game like king mackerel, sailfish, and the occasional shark. What sets Edisto apart, though, is the way the fish here are tied to the land—everything from the low country’s salt marshes to the thick oak forests adds a layer of character to every catch, making the experience feel rooted in something bigger than just fishing.

After a day spent on the water, Edisto Island invites you to unwind with the same laid-back pace that defines its fishing. Head to one of the local seafood joints and enjoy the freshest shrimp and oysters, straight from the same waters you just fished. The island’s slow pace, combined with the warmth of the local community, creates a sense of home that lingers long after you’ve packed up your gear. It’s the kind of place that draws you in, one cast at a time.

Captain Matt was a great guide. He had a very clean boat and was willing to teach some of us inexperienced fishers. He was courteous and friendly throughout the trip. The boat ride allowed us to see other parts of South Carolina we would not see otherwise. He was kind enough to rescheduled us when our original date was going to have terrible weather. Captain Matt also made sure we caught fish during our fishing trip. He tried different ways of fishing to catch them given the weather. We were able to catch enough fish to then head to Water's Edge where they cooked our fish for us for dinner. He helped us find restaurants nearby where we could do this. Overall, a wonderful experience with Captain Matt. We highly recommend booking with him.
