On this 12 hour trip, you can travel up to 50 miles offshore. At this distance offshore you can expect to hook into some true sea monsters! While trolling with Captain Matthew, you may have a chance to catch many species, such as King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, and Bonitas. These are the more common fish. Other species you might encounter as well are Wahoos, Dolphins, Blackfin Tunas, Barracudas, and Sailfish. During your travel out to deeper water, the mates will be working to make sure you are ready to go when we get to our fishing spot. They will be cutting bait, getting rods ready, and teaching you the basics of fishing school. You will troll off-and-on throughout the day: first on the way to your first fishing spot, on your way back to Destin, and also on longer runs in between spots. We also sometimes switch to (or stay with) primarily trolling efforts if you catch your limit of your primary target-fish or if the trolling action just happens to be on fire, but the #1 objective overall is quality bottom fish for your whole group. On the 12 hour fishing trip, you can expect to be targeting a large variety of species, based on season and availability. On the trolling lines, we will be tempting the most highly desired top-water fish like King Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, Bonita, and more. If you're looking for an introduction to deep-sea fishing, this trip is perfect for you! Our shortest and most beginner-friendly option (available seasonally), this trip will get you around 15-20 miles offshore for some great fishing fun. You will troll to your first fishing spot and during your return to shore (and in between, time permitting), but your main focus will be bottom-fishing. Typically targetting species like Vermillion Snapper (Mingo Snapper), White Snapper, and Porgys, the casual angler can "usually" land these fish with minimal strain (but that doesn't mean you're catching small-fries). No matter the time of year, there is always something to catch in Destin FL! Captain Jonathan has been fishing these waters year-round and is an expert on fish habits through changing seasons. For these winter trips inshore, banner days can be had on Redfish, Trout, and Flounder. Most of the redfish are going to be slot-sized and limits can certainly be had. Big bull reds are slightly fewer and further between often lurking in the open water. To chase these, Captain Jonathan will scout the bays and shorelines for birds corralling schools of baitfish. These giant reds like to sit under these schools and get an easy meal. You can also target Bluefish, Mangrove Snapper, and the occasional Shark in the inshore water this time of year.
