trip description for 3 Person Duck Hunt in South Padre Island

This is a three person half day private bay duck hunting trip near South Padre Island, Texas. The Lower Laguna Madre has some of the finest duck hunting in the United States when conditions are right. Hunting along the edges of the fronts is absolutely the most ideal time to plan a trip. Multiple species move through this bay system on their way South. Large concentrations of redheads and pintails winter here. Other species that migrate through the South Padre area are widgeon, teal, shovelers, scaup, and others. Clients can bring their own retriever if discussed beforehand with the guide. Typically, hunt over decoy spreads consisting of at least 75 decoys. Season starts in November and goes out for two weeks after Thanksgiving Sunday. Starts again on Second Saturday in December and typically goes to last Sunday in January. Guides prefer to duck hunt in the afternoon and will provide a seasoned retriever. This is a fun activity and most clients return to go again. These are not easy hunts and do require some labor. We work with a couple of seasoned taxidermists that can also mount the trophy bird if any clients are interested at a reasonable price. Read More

Anglers use lightweight spinning or casting gear to cast small poppers, plugs, or surface flies towards floating debris or areas with surface activity. Mahi-mahi are known for their aggressive strikes on surface lures, often leaping out of the water in pursuit of the bait. Anglers should be ready to retrieve the lure with a fast and erratic action to mimic the movements of fleeing baitfish and trigger strikes from mahi-mahi. By employing these techniques and adapting to changing conditions, anglers in Port Isabel can maximize their chances of success and enjoy the thrill of targeting mahi-mahi in the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Captain Emilio and his first mate(I apologize for not remembering your name), were wonderful. They visited with us before departure. We were at the end of Red Snapper season, but hey, we got our limit. Plus mackerel and Bonita. Captain Emilio did an excellent job getting us to the perfect location. I will say, taking the grandchildren (9& 4 years of age), the first mate did an outstanding job teaching the curious 9/year old. She learned a lot, as did I. I’m so glad we held off deep sea fishing until we were at South Padre(the other option was in Corpus), nope this was my favorite. I would tell anyone to make an 8-hr trip, and then scale back if needed. We had our quota of Red Snapper and continued to troll for the next hour or so. I would definitely recommend Captain Emilio !!!
