Float into the water with Greg for an exciting fly-fishing adventure on some beautiful Texas rivers! On this 4 to 8-hour fly-fishing trip, Greg will float you out on the Brazos River, a smaller tributary such as the Paluxy River, or one of the many of the area lakes. Here, he'll give you some of his expert fly fishing tips as you target several fish species including Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, White Bass, and a variety of the Sunfish species. There is even Carp, Smallmouth Buffalo, Freshwater Drum and Gar. No matter your experience level, from beginners to experienced, Greg is passionate about making your day on the water one to remember. Whether it’s floating the scenic Brazos River, wading the “hill country like” Paluxy River, or taking you out on one of many picturesque lakes, Greg will guide you to a Texas sized, fun filled, fly fishing trip of a lifetime! Depending on conditions and where the fishing is the best, Greg will choose from a couple of options for the best way to go. You'll either be aboard a custom 16 1/2 foot Hog Island Skiff with a Jet Motor or a 14 foot Aire Raft equipped with an Outcast fishing system. These vessels are very stable and comfortable, and are great for getting through shallow water. Greg will provide flies, leaders & tippet, fly rods & reels (available by request, please make arrangements prior to your trip), drinks, snacks and will even do some expert photography to leave you with some pictures! Lunches will be provided on the full day trips as well. All you need to bring is a valid Texas freshwater fishing license, and we recommend polarized sun glasses, a hat, rain gear & clothing for the season and sunscreen. You are welcome to bring our own fly rod and reel. He recommends a 4-6 weight Fly Rod for wade trips on smaller waters such as the Paluxy River. However, on the Brazos River or one of the many area Lakes, he prefers a 6-8 weight Fly Rod. Big flies allow opportunities to catch some bigger fish but require a heavier fly line. Big fish are also easier to control and land on a 6-8 weight fly rod. In terms of lines, he recommends floating, weight forward and shorter taper fly lines. On the Brazos River and some of the lake areas, there are times when an intermediate sink, or sink tip and full sinking lines are best. Enjoy your day on the water and catch some fish with Greg! Guided fly fishing trips targeting largemouth, smallmouth, guadalupe bass and trout. **Guadalupe River** The fall and winter months find us chasing trophy sized Rainbow and Brown trout on the Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake Dam. The efforts of Texas Parks and Wildlife along with the Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited chapter have helped make this river one of the top trophy trout fisheries in the U.S. Catching trout in the 20+ inch range is very common. Tyler offers half or full day raft fly fishing trips from mid October through the Spring months. **San Marcos River** The San Marcos River is one of our top Bass fishing destinations in TX. An abundance of trophy sized Largemouth bass, Guadalupe bass, and Tyler's favorite, the Smallmouth Bass. We offer Full or Half day float trips on a beautiful remote stretch of river near Martindale TX. Its tough to beat throwing deer hair poppers off the banks and getting absolutely BLOWN UP by an angry bass! Come spend a day on this beautiful spring fed fishery with Tyler and see what the talk is all about! **Blanco River** The Blanco River is another great bass fishery located just outside the small town of Blanco TX. We spend many days on this river during the early spring and summer months. An otherwise not so pressured fishery, the Blanco offers great opportunity of catching big bass on the fly. We offer full and half day float trips on the Blanco! For Half Day trips, Tyler only provides ice, water and any special request beverages you would like to enjoy. So make sure to bring snacks if you think you might need them! Everything is provided on his Full Day Trips. Read More

What types of smallmouth bass fishing trips are common in Texas?

River fishing is the most popular type of fishing for smallmouth bass in Texas as well as lake fishing.

The most common fishing techniques in Texas are fly fishing, artificial lure fishing, and light tackle fishing but kayak fishing and heavy tackle fishing are popular as well.

How much does a Texas smallmouth bass fishing trip cost?

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for smallmouth bass fishing in Texas?

The most popular season for smallmouth bass fishing in Texas is spring, and most anglers book their trips 23 days in advance.

We had a great float trip! Our guides, Cody and Mitch were fantastic!! They were very knowledgeable of the river how to get us on fish. We had a beginner that had never fly fish before and Cody and Mitch were very patient with teaching him how to cast and catch fish on a fly rod. I would highly recommend these guys for fishing on the Brazos!

Another great day out with Chris. We found lots of rainbows up to 18" and even a Guad bass and my first perch on fly anywhere!

Had a great day with Chris. Ended up with 5 rainbows, all between 12" and 18" which is a good day wherever you are. When you have that on beautiful day in the stunning Texas Hill country is it hard to beat as a fishing experience. Well worth the trip from Houston and I be back to fish the Guadalupe again before the spring.

Had the best time with Captain Carson. It was our first time bass fishing outside the Midwest and he was an excellent guide and great at teaching us some new techniques. He was very knowledgable about the area, and has experience with all sorts of fishing from river and lake to offshore. Shared some great stories, had an awesome experience, and plan to be going out again! Thanks again Carson!

As a beginner, I was nervous to go out on my first fly fishing trip, but Chris made the experience incredible! I was able to reel in 4 fish (my boyfriend reeled in another 5), including some rainbow and brown trout. However, the best part wasn't actually catching anything but learning the technique and patience that goes into fly fishing. Chris was a great instructor! Would absolutely book again or recommend to a friend!
