Everything to Know About Booking a scup fishing charter

Our Damn Good Guides currently offer 21 scup trips, and the most popular trips are Old-School Classic Trip guided by Greg, Madeira Beach Quick Getaway guided by Keith, and Shinnecock Inshore Slam guided by Peter.

Our guides are rated a 4.77 out of 5 based on 3789 verified reviews on Captain Experiences.

What types of scup fishing charters are common?

Deep Sea fishing is the most popular type of fishing for scup as well as inshore fishing and nearshore fishing.

The most common fishing techniques are bottom fishing, light tackle fishing, and trolling but live bait fishing and jigging are popular as well.

How much do scup fishing charters cost?

Prices for scup can range anywhere from about $755 to $2,200, but the average price for a half day trip for scup is $1,265. The average price for a full day trip for scup is $1,615.

Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

What month is best for scup fishing?

The most popular season for scup fishing is summer, and most anglers book their trips 48 days in advance.

Do I need a fishing license for scup and what are the bag limits for scup?

See here for more information on scup fishing licenses, scup bag limits, and fishing season regulations for scup. When in doubt, your fishing guide will always know the right scup rules and regulations.

This was a Christmas gift in 2023 for our Grandson. We were rescheduled due to weather the first time but the second time was worth every penny to see his smile. Darius was very quick to respond to my numerous text messages keeping us up to date with ocean conditions and we would highly recommend him to anyone and everyone that we meet. Thanks again Darius for making this trip special.

Matt was great. The crew managed to not only we engage positively with our 4-person party, but Matt ensured that our daughters had fun throughout. He left the course mainly up to us, since we had 2 younger children with us. I'll definitely come back to this charter service!

Captian Chris and TJ did a great job. They were courteous and friendly. They were slightly unprepared, both forgot their filet knives, but overall we were pleased with the trip and had a great time.

I could not have asked for a better outfit to take our family fishing. Captain Keith took us to the best spots and we caught something each time. Pat and Captain Keith were amazing with our diversity of age and skill level. Thank you again.

Captain John and is mate did an excellent job in making sure my family had a very good experience in the golf fishing. Withing the first hours we already had all of the fish we could take. I would give it a 6 star but it looks like it's not possible so 5 it is. If you are still thinking about booking with Cap John don't think twice just go for it, him and is mate will make sure you have a good and safe experience.

Our two boat trip was absolutely electric. First off, Capt. Chris' boat was perfect. For the price point, you'd be hard pressed to find a better fishing charter deal out of Charleston. The second boat in our group was equally as nice. Both boats were super comfortable, we just sat in the back on beanbags and drank beer as we raced out about 40 miles offshore. The guides gave us an in depth safety talk before taking off and took every safety precaution available, they definitely found a happy medium between fun and safety though. They were also very well informed about what was in/out of season, and the parameters for keeper fish. On first drop, we had 2 really nice red snapper hookups. Once that bite ran cold, we wasted no time, hopping around to multiple different locations, filling the cooler up with vermillion and other good eating fish. Even got a few 5+ foot sharks for the young'n that was with us. He was so stoked! We ran into a bit of weather but that didn't phase the guides, they had contingency plans to keep us busy. We elected to run deeper to avoid the thunderstorm that formed between us and the land, which meant we got a few extra hours of fishing (no complaints). The highlight of the trip was chumming up a cobia feeding frenzy right on the surface before we booked it back to the marina. Any time you can topwater fish for cobia, you're in for a treat. We almost landed a trophy cobia before a 8+ foot shark breached the surface and completely annihilated it about 20 feet off the back of the boat. It was so primal, none of us cared that we lost the trophy. I recommend these guys to anyone, beginners or lifetime anglers. Will definitely be using them again!
