I bought my plane tickets, marked my calendar, and started counting down the days until take off. Although I wouldn’t be able to help with stands, food plots, or cleaning up the cabin for the upcoming stay of 10 of our closest deer hunting buddies for Deer Camp, I did closely supervise by reviewing cam pictures, suggesting various foods to add to the grocery list, and of course, diligently reading the Deer Camp Newsletter our leader sent out. With all of the responsibilities, the time flew by and by the evening of November 16th, I was out of the city and headed to the North Woods.

Q: So I’d imagine not all of these rivers are close in proximity. How does running trips in all of these areas work?

A: It works a couple different ways. The first being that our guides will drive where the fishing’s best.

The second is that it offers flexibility to those traveling to Montana. Not everyone’s coming to the same area, so we offer a ton of river options so that wherever you’re staying within western MT, we can take you fishing.

Best Bass Fishing in Florida

If you’re coming from out of state, there’s a decent chance most Florida waterways will be better fishing than your local lakes and ponds. This is partly due to the mild weather during the state's winter; bass have more time to grow here than in other parts of the country.

However, like anywhere else, there are hotspots in Florida that produce more and bigger bass than the average body of water in the state. Some of the best lakes in the state are:

How to Fish the Jetties: No Wrong Way

Fishing the jetties offers opportunities for all anglers to catch fish using a variety of different methods. Many fishermen enjoy spending the weekends sitting on the rocks in hopes of catching a passing fish. In Texas, jetties probably offer the best chance for anglers to catch a saltwater fish without getting on a boat or wading into the water. Safety is important when walking on these huge, wet rocks that can be covered in slippery algae that grows on the damp surface. Safety is also a big concern for anglers in small watercraft because the waves and currents at the jetties can be considerable.

What is a Musky?

The name muskellunge originally comes from tribes native to the northern US and Canada. Depending on the translation the name means “great fish” or “big pike”. The fish itself is a large ambush predator with a long, thin shape built for speed. They have an impressive set of teeth built for snagging prey, and given the opportunity will eat almost anything including reptiles, mammals, and other fish that sometimes appear too large to fit in the musky’s mouth.

The salinity varies by body of water and is an important factor to consider when fishing. Salt levels impact everything from vegetation and fish behavior to corrosion on gear. Here’s what you need to know about salinity and fishing by looking at one of the saltiest coasts on earth.

Salinity on The Texas Coast

Baffin Bay is famous for beautiful water, big fish, and wreaking havoc on gear. The water in Baffin Bay typically contains between 45 to 55 parts per thousand of salt but can range up to 92. The Gulf of Mexico sits at a consistent 32 parts per thousand of salt while some areas in Galveston Bay measure only 11.

Joseph: Alright, well you already gave me when your favorite time is to fish for redfish but what’s your favorite bait?

Ryan: My favorite artificial bait. Is a local company called Eye Strike Jig Heads. I think they're main name is Trout Eye. I just want to make sure I get this right. So it's the Trout Eye 3/16 oz chartreuse jig head with a Z-man Minnow Z. My favorite color is purple with a chartreuse tail. I'm getting fired up for the fall because I'm about to throw a million of those things.
