This special trip is focused on catching Cobia, a delicious eating fish that's equally fun to fight. Cobia usually travel solo and like to hang out at the surface, so you'll rely on your eyes and your casting technique to hook them up. As Captain Ricky will tell you, there are several conditions that need to be met in order for this trip to work—most importantly, you need clear, warm water and plenty of sunshine. This type of fishing is kind of like deer hunting from a tree stand—you're not going to get one every time you go and just because you see them, that doesn't always mean you're going to get lucky. Bring your rabbit's foot for this trip!...Read More
While you search for Cobia, you'll also have the opportunity to troll for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish, fun fast and fun species to fight. You may also encounter schools of Redfish and Black Drum which can also be caught sightcasting on bucktail jigs. May and June are the best months for this type of trip and the limit is four Cobia to the boat with a 36" fork length.
You'll be spending the day aboard a comfortable 42' Guthrie sportfisher with plenty of space to lounge and hang around with your family and friends, a shade top to keep you out of the sun, and even a bathroom. This versatile boat is perfect for fishing the different conditions around Hatteras, including inshore and offshore trips. Aboard, Captain Ricky has three fish finders, four GPS’s, two VHF radios, radar, and Sirus XM radio so that you can listen to your favorite genre of music while fishing.
Captain Ricky will provide everything you need for a perfect day on the water, including rods, reels, bait, and tackle. His goal is for everyone to have a blast and to catch a bunch of fish! Remember to bring proper clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.
Captain Rick was born in 1960 and has been a full-time fisherman since the age of 15—fishing both commercially and charter. He has fished the Bahamas, Florida, and up and down the coast of North Carolina. He fished for numerous years out of Oregon Inlet and has fished as a mate for numerous years for some sport fishing pioneers like Buddy Cannady, John Bayliss, and Tony Tillett....Read More
