Everything to Know About Booking a Fishing Charter in Gulf Shores

What are the best fishing charters in Gulf Shores?

Gulf Shores Fishing Charter Overview

Gulf Shores, a resort town in Alabama, is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts. The area offers a diverse range of fishing opportunities, from inshore shallows to the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The local seafloor is dominated by around 17,000 artificial reefs, providing a hospitable environment for a variety of fish species, including Triggerfish, Grouper, Amberjack, and over half a dozen Snapper species, such as the sought-after Red Snapper. In the summer, anglers can also encounter larger species such as Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, Mackerel, and Mahi Mahi in the deep waters of the Gulf. Inshore, Redfish, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Pompano, Sheepshead, Whiting, and Flounder are available year-round in the Perdido Bay and its neighboring bayous and lagoons. Gulf Shores offers a range of fishing trips, from half-day inshore trips to multi-day offshore adventures. Additionally, fishing licenses are covered by the experienced and professional captains, ensuring that all fishing is legal and adheres to size and bag limits.

Gulf Shores Inshore Fishing

It would be a mistake to overlook the inshore fishing in Gulf Shores. You can have your pick of all the best Gulf Shores fishing spots like open water and flats in Oyster Bay, brackish bayous just north in Bon Secour, or right in the middle of town on Little Lagoon.

The bite is on year-round, but your best bet for targeting inshore bull redfish and speckled trout is from late summer through the winter. These inshore beasts move into shallower tidal waters during these months in search of food and can be caught using a variety of tackle and techniques. In the heat of summer, tarpon, or "The Silver King" can be caught in inshore and nearshore waters around Gulf Shores.

Gulf Shores Deep Sea Fishing Charters

The crown jewel of Gulf Shores is deep sea fishing. With over 17,000 reefs scattered around the nearshore and deep sea waters just off the beach, there are plenty of species to be caught. Gulf Shores is situated relatively close to the continental shelf, so Pelagic species like wahoo, tuna, marlin, and mahi-mahi are within reach.

If you're visiting Gulf Shores in March for spring break, the amberjack and cobia bite is on. In the heat of summer, several grouper and snapper species can be caught near reefs and other deep structures. Red snapper fishing season in Gulf Shores typically runs from June through August. During this time, anglers from all over the country flock to the Gulf of Mexico to try their luck at catching this delicious and highly sought-after fish.

We were quite disappointed in our experience. Cade is a nice young man, but asked us nothing about our fishing experience or expectations for the day. Our first fishing spot was about 300 yards from the launch ramp where we caught about 5 or 6 fish, with the biggest being about 8 inches. We then traveled about 35 minutes to the second location which was under a highway bridge.. We caught about 4 or 5 fish, with the biggest being about 10 inches. I understand that the guide cannot be responsible for the fish caught but it seemed like we were in locations that were targeting smaller fish. For the cost of the trip, we were expecting more of a "Gulf charter fishing experience." I would recommend not using this venue.

We had a great time with Captain Wilder! Caught a bunch of fish (Red Snapper, a very big Flounder, 2 big Black Tip Sharks, etc…). Great experience and Wilder was wonderful with the kids.

Captain Chase and first mate House were so much fun! Will definitely use them again! Group of 10 ages ranging from 11 to 66 and they put us on fish, especially considering the trip we booked. And with House manning the deck, there was never a dull moment.
